Larry Holmes decision to fight Mike Tyson.

larry should have had warm up or two, guess he was at the time he signed he was just thinking of the paycheck BUT changed mind mind later, gave it a go.... but it was no disgrace in the event, he had bright moments and was only koed when he caught his glove in a rope, would have lasted longer without that.

tyson would still have koed him once his gas tank was empty of course.

 

Round 3 was Holmes's best round. He was able to land some jabs that disrupted Tyson and he controlled the clinches. No noteworthy punches were landed though and there really wasn't any running either. Maybe you're right about not being any "good" moments.

 

Former boxing press agent Harold Conrad attended the event and remarked that...

''Ali needed the money, Holmes doesn't. But when you're getting $3.1 million like Holmes is, it's hard to turn down.

''Just before the weigh-in, I was standing close to Holmes. There were no reporters around, just some boxing people, and someone said something to Holmes - I didn't hear what it was - but his answer told everything. He said, 'Tomorrow's payday.' ''

 

yeh he was landing shots with the crowd behind him shortly before tyson khtfo. I do mean moments, not rounds. In retrospect the false confidence may have been a killer.

 

Problem was there was no car inside the ring for Holmes to jump off from.

He probably looked old because he was fighting a prime 21 year old machine.

 

I understand now

 

He had great difficulty hitting Tyson who was crouching and slipping shots, I`d say Tyson was better defensively than anyone else that Holmes faced in his career.

 

he'd fought cagier guys but the force of threat of counterstrike was greater than all he had faced except perhaps Shavers.

 

Tyson was a far better counter puncher than Shavers.
