Outside of a fight involving AJ, Wilder, or Fury, this would be by far the best fight to make in the HW division. Anyone think there is more of a chance than slim and none to make this happen? It would be about a 50/50 fight imo, though I might make Sasha the slight favorite at this point. Who else do they fight if not each other? Is it time to retire for Sasha?
Two Deadly punchers (at advanced age) I don't think the money is there. Endless matches to make at heavyweight but I think with the skill level & punching power has to be more funds. We'll probably end up with Povetkin-Ibeabuchi or some hot Russian garbage like that
It's an exciting fight in my mind and one which, given it would probably go some way to setting up the winner with another title shot sooner rather than later, would make a lot of sense for both men, taking into account they are both ageing fast (which is not to say either has yet lost their 'pop.') That said, as much as I'd love to see this fight get made, I'm very doubtful it will and in-fact, truth be told, I have a niggling suspicion that we may not see Povetkin step in the ring again.
It completely depends on Povetkin. He can make money against anyone in Moscow. If he wants the challenge, he will take the fight.
This Povetkin will likely have to spare some of his purse. Povetkin roughly makes 1-5 mil a fight. Past opponents/B side like Takam, hammer, Duhaupas, or even Rahman's etc make around 100k-500k tops. I'd be interested how much Huck made vs Sasha Maybe Ortiz will take the Russian money who knows but seems unlikely.
Would be fantastic if it happened. Ortiz's only real option at the moment is to wait for a Wilder rematch and he'll be making peanuts until then and so even 200K is probably more than Ortiz is making, he only made 500K for Wilder. But I don't see any reason why either side would want the fight. It's a risky fight that either could lose and nothing to be gained other than a good win on their resume. Unless it's an eliminator for a shot at Wilder I can't see it happening and that seems unlikely as the WBC removed Povetkin from their current rankings for fighting Joshua.
Didn't the WBC take Povetkin off their rankings to stop another top Joshua guy from littering them? lol Ortiz wont risk a number 2 spot bc he could get another potential mandatory against wilder though unlikely bc it takes years to do that ( about 2 ) and Wilder will take an L in all likelihood by 2020. Povetkin vs Ortiz is highly unlikely bc Ortiz is only ranked in the WBC.
Why didn't they take Parker off then ? The WBC simply doesn't want to many Joshua defeated guys in their rankings bc it makes Wilder look bad, its why they demoted Breazeale and made Ortiz number 2.
That would most def end in a brutal KO Dream fight but in the end other than brain damage not sure what the winner would get from this epic battle
If I was in team Povetkin I would lure Oquendo to fight him in Russia for a final fight. The Ortiz fight would be great but I don't see the point of it to be honest, with both pushing 40.
The top guys should be ........using ranking set ups. 1.Whyte ( he has to be there, he holds the silver belt and hes fought a few eliminators. 2. Breazeale ( hes been the mando now over a year I think and got demoted ? lol 3. Povetkin he hasn't lost to Wilder or anyone here. ( mysteriously taken off the list) 4. Ortiz lost to the champion. 5.Fury just cause he was a former champion but they put him at 3 though with no relevant fights in 3 years? As you can see the real top 3 guys Joshua has defeated in a legit ranking system. Wilder has only fought one top 5 guy the entire time in his own sanctioning body. Had Takam and Martin pulled out wins it would have been the Joshua show here....even without Povetkin bc Parker is also ranked.
The only way Povetkin would ever get a shot at the WBC (Wilder Bodyguard Corporation) belt would be if he fought Breazeale, Ortiz and then Whyte to solidify his number one mandatory spot and then further 2 year wait, during which time Wilder will have had to reschedule the Fury fight for the fifth time when Fury pulls out through yet another bogus training injury. By the end of all that Povetkin will think **** fighting Beoncey's personal bodyguard team, I'll fight a few guys ranked in the the WBA, IBF or WBO and have another crack at Joshua as there is far more likelihood in that happening than there being any benefit whatsoever in fighting Ortiz. Oh and in my opinion, Povetkin beats Ortiz as Povetkin is legit whereas Ortiz in comparison is relatively untested, likely much older and somewhat overhyped even now
I think for reasons you stated, Ortiz would have good reason to want the fight. He'd make a lot of money. It could probably also be made into a mandatory fight for one of AJ's belts, or at least rocket him up the standings in one of the orgs to near mandatory. And he'd make ALOT more money against AJ than he ever has in his career. But unless Povetkin wants another crack at AJ, and he'd probably be 41 by the time it happened, Sasha wouldn't have a real reason to make it happen.
