I've rated Smith for a long time time. He's absolutely huge at the weight. How he makes super middleweight I'll never know. I think he's going to be a fabulous boxer in the coming years. In saying that, I find it hard to see how anyone can beat George Groves at the moment. I always rated George, great boxing ability and heavy hands. One of the best jabs in the game and improved stamina. Wealth of experience now too. I'm going for George by two rounds in a fight Callum Smith gets a lot of praise for. May even be calls for a rematch but George should move up if he wins.
There’s rumours that a rematch is already planned...although I imagine if it’s a v one-sided fight/early KO then it wouldn’t happen.
No hard feelings m8 lol ! I can understand were your coming from but i actually think Smith controls pace well when he is up for it. He has waited that long for his chance and in doing so seems to struggle to go through gears for weak opponents, but when he thinks there is a threat he is a different animal. Smith will actually dictate pace better, as he has shown over 12 rounds. Against tough opponents Groves does not pace himself well. Regardless of that I am talking nonsense as I think Smith stops him mid rounds. Watch him go through the gears, Groves will be surprised how good Smith is and start to lose his shape and will be stopped. That's the prediction of Mystic Moog anyway lol
Controlling the pace against Eubank is a completely different kettle of fish to controlling it against Smith. You can’t keep him at the end of the jab because he’s got a much bigger reach, the punches coming back will hurt too. Groves struggled with Jack for the exact same reasons and Smith is 2 inches taller again. 78 inch reach as opposed to 72 with Groves. Groves is gonna have to come inside and when he does he leaves himself vulnerable to those trademark body shots. I don’t think Callum is the better boxer I just think he’s a weight class above and I’m not sure Groves is 100% fit. I’ve heard they get 7 and 5 million for winner and loser respectively so it would be clear why he’s took it whilst not 100%. Callum Smith stoppage / Groves retirement Round 7/8.
Is that because they would want to do it again in front of a uk crowd or is it an implicit nod to Groves not being fully fit?
Not sure bud, but it makes sense. It’s gonna have the atmosphere of a Tesco Extra in there, it makes sense to do it again in England.
I have freeview tv is it possible for me to buy it and how? Also on Wikipedia it has them fighting at a 65,000 stadium?
Im watching it on PS4. Just search for groves in psn store and yoi can get it for 17 quid. You can also waych online on itv boxoffice but i did that fot the Eubank fight and it wasnt a great connection.
UK people can buy the fight at TVPlayer dot com (Click channels click ITV Box Office) and US on the DAZN app.
Thanks. I have a £100 on Groves so want to watch it. I just have freeview though so don't think it's possible. It's possible to pay for it and watch It on itv box office online then?
Groves is comfortably the better fighter in my eyes and I think he should win reasonably comfortably. Smith isn't very hard to find and he's not the most complicated fighter in the world. My concern for Groves is the shoulder surgery as this sort of thing can be quite troublesome. Smith is a big strong lad, but I think he's hurting himself to make 168 a little now and I'm not that high on him in general. Really exciting about this one though, shame the card is absolute pish.
The 2 main issues I have are: 1) Groves main weapon has always been his jab - it's powerful and suprising long because his shoulder joint had almost a hyperflexibility (this could be a reason why it dislocated) - anyway I just don't think the joint can heal as before, in terms of flexibility, movement, power and more importantly muscle endurance over 12 rounds - might be snappy and powerful for a short time but what happens if it fades? - It's his jab that sets up the straight right which is his bingo shot. 2) Since Jack fight Groves has fought Middleweights!! - Chudinov, Murray, Eubank, Cox, - Callum Smith is a Light Heavy Weight!! - but with the speed of a SMW. I think this will be a factor for Groves, he's said himself he can spar bigger guys but they won't be as quick as Smith. I think Smith with be taking half steps back, making Groves over reach and walk him onto an Uppercut! - just my thoughts Plus, on the inside Groves won't bully Smith and I think he tires his shoulder out even more! - with the risk of Callum taking Georges Ribs out! - generally when someone is tight at the weight it's the body that hurts most, be obviously know his jaw is fragile.
Terrific reading of the situation. It's actually Smith that has fought the bigger stronger opponents in recent years, Fielding and Skoglund, who are both big SMWs.
