The Ellis fight was in1889 ,Fitz won the heavyweight title 8 years later!

Fitz doesn't look too scrawny here.

Where exactly do you think that Boxrec comes from?

Did the Archangel blow a golden trumpet, and announce that this was the complete and unquestionable truth?

You are not only way out of line as others are telling you-mean, childish & disrespectful:
But you are not logical about basic facts.

    1) I did not state that boxers in the 1920's were as skilled as today.
Where do you see my opinion on that matter?
I even said I agreed with you on some matters relating to head to head match ups concerning size.
That is called 'straw man' argument, a basic logical fallacy.
You set up a case that I did not make &...Well I cannot even say knocked it down, because you just asserted a premise, not gave any actual argument or details.
But it was not the point I was making.

    2) Stop calling everyone you disagree with a "casual".
Clearly Janitor has been following boxing closely for many years.
And do you not understand that people who follow things closely can have different opinions?
One can follow the sport much closer than you-or at least as close for WAY longer-& merely differing about historical comparisons does not make either a casual.

    3) We keep trying to tell you that the question is NOT how good the man was across eras-in this thread. Which is not yours.
Now I happen to think Fitzsimmons might be great in this era-fighting guys around his size.
This is between the two extremes that he could beat any SHW ever, or your extreme saying he could not be decent even against men his size.
Also to compare fighters fairly across eras, you would have to have them fight each other under BOTH set of rules, or rules halfway between the two.
    Neither is naturally more fair.

    4) You are being irrational in the small matter of what Fitzsimmons weighed.
Nor for disagreeing, that is fine.
But I told you that I did not see his weight listed on that hyperlink-unless I missed it.
It is not logical to instead of pointing out where it is listed assume "I do not want to believe it" or am a casual fan.
I clicked on everything related to the Ellis fight-I do not see weights listed there.

Again if I missed it, fine.
But do not get either childishly denigrating or irrational.
Edit: no argument was ever made showing him around or under 150.
Others think his weight was minimized, but this man, now banned, habitually manipulates size, at least weights, to make his case.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Like some others here who have insisted on being abusive from a safe distance & act from Ego...
You will not last here if you insist on being insulting.

This is the thread of a serious fan, a "boxing junkie" who has always seemed gracious & calm.
We are not gonna engage you on what YOU futilely insist upon debating on HIS thread.
Fuhgettibout the agenda & come with respect.
You created an unnecessary mess & already are making enemies.

I hope you have the fortitude to learn, reform, & end up staying.

In terms of fighting people over 200Ibs.

Bob Fitzsimmons fought Jeffries twice, Ed Dunkhorst, both listed weighing over 200Ibs, Gus Ruhlin was only listed a few pounds under 200Ibs, and is listed as over it in other fights. More minor opponents that were listed weighing over 200Ibs too such as Abe Cougle, Charles Puff, Millard Zender, Lew Joslin. On top of this Jack Dempsey, Jim Hall,
Joe Choynski, Peter Maher, James J Corbett, and Tom Sharkey all beat opponents listed weighing over 200Ibs, as did Gus Ruhlin.

Judge him on his accomplishment. If you take out Jeffries, he's undefeated from March 1890 to November 1905. Nearly 15 years.

I pretty much put the new super heavyweight champion around 25 after a few tittle defenses.

If you're small, which most legendary heavyweight were, you better have some power. Fitz had plenty. I tend to think he weighed a bit more than is reported but that's another thread.

It was mostly just where to place Fitz, I never put much thought into the order beyond above or below Fitz.

It's really hard to assess the bareknuckle guys, so adding them in was just for a laugh really.

Not top 30 in my book. But, he is an ATG fighter. One of the best pound for pound fighters and punchers to ever lace them up.

Both Choynsky and Corbett were green Choynsky the greener with just 3 fights to Corbett's 5.Corbett was the world champion in his prime at 30 when Fitz ko'd him.
    Fitz beat O Brien.
    Choynsky lost to him.
Fitz beat Sharkey twice by ko but was robbed in the first fight.
    .
Choynsky lost to him twice , once by ko ,and drew with him
    Fitz ko'd Maher in1 rd .
Choynsky beat him once but also lost to him by ko .
Fitz beat O Brien and lost to him when he was an old man.
    Choynsky lost to him twice.
    You talk nonsense.

Corbett had fought Sharkey to a draw just 9 months before he fought Fitzsimmons. He was 30 years old the reigning champion with just15 fights under his belt.
Maher fought Fitzsimmons in Feb1896 and was ko'd in 1 rd
He fought Choynsky in November 9 months later and ko'd Choynsky !
Choynsky didn't beat Maher until 1900! When Maher was an alcoholic.
Johnson had 57 fights under his belt when he fought Fitzsimmons who was 43 years old!
Why don't you do some ****ing research before making these nonsense claims and making yourself look absolutely stupid ?
    You're a ****ing NUT JOB!
