How much would Ali weigh if he weight trained the way AJ does in this era?

But he was older and fatter then. The hypothetical version we're talking about here would be neither.

Ali is one fighter (maybe the only one?) whose reach was publicly measured - 78" measured by Angelo Dundee on Wide World of Sports. Go to 1:19,

If so he still has champs with smaller reaches than himself who successfully tackled giants .

There is no question Ali's legs were larger without any weights.

If you'll notice, neither Ali nor Chamberlain are measured correctly. Chamberlain tilts his arms upwards and also backwards. This would take a few inches off a regular heavyweight's reach, for a man of Wilt Chamberlain's stature it would probably be a bit more. Ali's arms are not fully straight, but this may be to compensate for possible hyperextension in the elbows when in a locked state. Hard to tell with those suits on. In any case I don't think this "reach" is that important in a boxing match. Mostly because there are other factors like footwork, speed and timing when it comes to range and success in exchanges etc.. Also, people have different proportions so a a 75 inch reach fighter with narrow shoulders and short (?) hands could have longer arms than a 79 inch reach fighter with wide shoulders and long hands.

I don`t think Ali would go for the KO in this fight.

    Deadlifts don't put on muscle?

No sir, 10 lbs. is too much. For the charts they say 4-5 lbs. per inch, maybe it is 6 for someone tall, max.

Joshua & most all recent HWs just carried more muscle than Ali.
This is evident visually & looking at their measurements.

That does not mean Ali would necessarily benefit from being larger-though I suspect he would to a limited degree.
But his game was not power, & if he got Joshua's muscularity his speed & endurance would suffer.

But he is not NEAR the muscle mass, even considering proportional to height, as Joshua & most SHWs.

Above someone says Ali's legs were bigger...That is visually & by Tale of the Tape the reverse of reality.

Now if Ali lifted seriously for years-fuhggeitbout with PEDs, he had a frame that could support him being fairly lean somewhere in the 230's max.
Relatively "ripped", 225 or so seems right.

But likely at least the former would be more than ideal for him, given his skill set.

    Or a better question:

How much slower would he be and how much sooner would Ali gas, if he weightlifted like Joshua?

Ali never went looking for the ko. He boxed and if it came, it came.

Ali was at his best under 215lbs, pre exile. Moving up wouldn't benefit him against AJ. Speed would be his weapon.

Notice the question mark at the end of that sentence? That means I'm questioning the statement.
