Joshua v Povetkin 1.1 mil ppv buys?

BT have a huge reach, they're in more homes than Sky through telephone and broadband.

They're going to push this massively.

This does a 1 million buys.

 

Based on the fake beef today (which I don't mind btw) I think they will be able to sell the fight quite well.

I was pretty pissed off with the AJ fight night for £20. Price quitting, Okolie hugging and then a quite good main event. But I still pay because I can't do with streaming.

 

I actually hope you're right, I'm not a Fury or Wilder fan but I'm a boxing fan and I'm not that bitter that I want it to fail.

My feeling is that this will have to sell large in the US because I just don't see this doing large numbers here in the UK in the early hours of the morning.

Early hours of the morning fights rarely do big numbers and the fact it is PPV will not help.

Add the fact that Fury isn't a big draw, he really isn't, his fights are boring to casual fans and that's who they will have to target to hit big numbers.

Also Fury doesn't have the appeal Joshua does, women like AJ fights, I see it in pubs, women are seriously interested in actually watching AJ's fights, Fury is quite a decisive character and doesn't have the same appeal but he isn't hated enough for people to tune in to watch him get beaten up, people seem just indifferent to him.

Even me, I watch any old rubbish when it comes to boxing but even I didn't watch Furys comeback fight against Seferi for example, I knew it would be boring and a non event and it was.

Fury isn't explosive enough, isn't exciting enough to get the UK paying their hard earned money in Christmas month and waiting up until 4am to watch him prance around like an idiot and get knocked out.


Wilder will sell this fight if anybody does, if they finally promote him and this fight properly in the US then it might do very well, Fury might upset enough Americans with his ridiculous antics and get them angry enough to tune in to watch him get KTFO.

Anyway, I wouldn't even want to guess at what numbers it will do, I genuinely have no idea because Wilder has never had a PPV fight and Fury isn't a draw.

Let's see how the promotion goes and what the response is like on social media because outside these forums nobody I know is really speaking about it, nobody really cares, they all want to see AJ Vs Wilder, Fury hasn't reignited the public interest in him with his two comeback fights.

 

I don't believe for a second that AJ/Parker came within 20,000 buys of the Klitschko fight. None of my casual mates bought it or even talked about it, there was no sport bible posts getting 10s of thousands of likes unlike the Klitschko fight, etc etc. It is a blatant lie. As a result, im pessimistic about these Povetkin numbers. Yet again there was no buzz about it, and they were giving away free tickets in the end.

That Barb is inaccurate. It had froch groves 2 only doing 50k more than Frampton Quigg which is wayyy off.

Agree with you here. If he lies all Joshua challengers would quote those figures and want a bigger unrealistic slice of the pie.

 

Positioning. Showing Wilder that Joshua's popularity is still peaking. A drop would show that fans are getting fed up.

My guess would be 4am at the earliest.

 

It is certainly possible and should not be dismissed.

It has an intriguing factor this one, if fury pulls it off then hats off to him.

Nobody gave him a chance against Wlad and he did it, people are giving him less chance against Wilder, could he do the impossible again???

If he does, then all roads lead to fury...

 

What numbers did Fury/Klitschko do? Fury is a much bigger draw now than he was back then. The win v Klit, the long term absence and comeback has intrigued the public. His comeback viewing figures are evidence of that.

I'm not going to say Fury is a PPV star. He's not. He wouldn't do good numbers against the Takam's and Povetkin's of this world. Joshua is unique there, certainly in the UK. Remember Fury has never really been promoted until now.

However, in the right matchup, with his ability to talk and generate excitement, Tyson is capable of doing big PPV numbers. Wilder is obviously the right fight.

Another eight weeks to promote this fight. I've a lot of friends who arent into boxing sharing videos on facebook from today's presser. My prediction as stated in an earlier post is 600-800 ppv buys. That's a very successful ppv in the UK. Especially on a BT platform. Sky would get it over a million.
