It's actually laughable that people use the example of there friends as a measurement of PPV sales. I mean seriously what's the base number of your friends. 5 - 10 people? Odd situation with Fury and popularity- he boxed for years on Channel 5 in largely entertaining fights but for whatever reason he never has been a major draw. BT will be happy with 250k buys plus- they aren’t the host broadcaster and I doubt the rights fee is that much. The time of night will hurt the buyrate a fair bit.
Decent numbers really when you consider: - British boxing wasn't buzzing to the extent it is now. - Nobody gave Fury a hope. It was seen as a mismatch. - Klitschko had little appeal in the UK, viewed as a boring champion by most. This fight is different. British boxing is peaking and there's huge interest in the Joshua/Wilder/Fury triangle. There's huge debate on every boxing social media outlet about who's top dog. It's an intriguing fight. Everyone knows Fury will outbox Wilder until a bomb lands. IF a bomb lands. Who wouldn't want to watch It? With the right promotion over the next few weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if this fight done 800k.

If Klitchko has so little appeal how did the AJ fight do so well at the gate and on PPV? That's after Wlad was in a terrible fight vs Fury? Wlad was well known and the draw was with Klitchko vs Fury was him being such a dominant champion for so long and the guy that dealt with Haye with ease.

They've gone about it the right way of things by opening up on Good morning Britain. Wilder is also now in the public domain, albeit because of the link with AJ, but nevertheless he's well known to the casuals. I think this surprises some people and does good numbers.
If Fury announced that he would be fighting in a princess Diana mask and ball gown as a tribute to the people's princess and wilder dressed as Adolf Hitler and was filmed urinating on the queen and slapped Philip Schofield and kicked prince george in the balls then it may approach a million.
