just curious about a few things in regards to when day before weigh ins became the norm over same day one?

    1. When did day before weigh ins become the norm?

    2. What were the contributing factors?

    3. Since a fighter could now have more time to add weight or cut less, did some fighters move up or down a weight division to utilize or compensate for this new procedure?

A common myth is that it became the norm in the early 80s after the Spinks-EMM and Mancini-Duk-Koo debacles, but the truth is that it was phased in gradually and as far as I can tell didn't really become the norm for big fights until the late 80s/early 90s.

I think I asked about whether any fighters moved down to take advantage of the change in an earlier thread, but nobody came up with any names.
