Watching an event 30 times? Did Lewis name Vitali his toughest opponent in his Ring magazine interview?

I guess it took a few more viewings to convince him.

He has never named Vitali as his hardest opponent.

It was Evander right? Someone who he beat twice.

Those ’best i faced’ articles are just fighters bigging up those they beat, and playing down fighters they lost to or had controversy with.

Lewis did him the **** in, fair and square, end of chat. And that was despite being old and fat. Obviously Vitali gave him a lot of bother and was edging it on the cards, but he was clearly bollocksed imo with Lennox getting to him more and more frequently despite clearly being tired himself. I'm expecting a blind, vociferous reply here and extricating myself before it comes.

Well Lewis beat everyone in fairness.

And I'm not sure picking McCall over Holyfield would have seemed anything but madness anyway.

Whereas my main man Lennox Lewis won fair and square, the "old and fat" thing does not work either, and sounds like sour grapes. I read Steward bragging in a boxing magazine (remember those!) just a few months before saying that Lewis was in his physical prime and could go on for years. As for being fat, he was supposed to be training for a title fight against Johnson,so if he came in a few pounds over, that is his problem.

The excuses diminish the man. It is better just to say that two champions went at it and the better man won.

What was he about 6 pounds over one of his best performances not so far back in Rhaman 2?

I'm not sure if it was an illegal back hand, which the film shows ripped over Vitali's eye region didn't create the cut. The blood came out shortly thereafter. Fight news reported is was loose tape.

What I am sure of is Lewis talked like an active fighter, tried to make other matches with Kirk Johnson and Roy Jones and quickly retired once the WBC ordered the re-match after saying multiple times he would give one.

Either way Lewis himself respects Vitali. It’s his best wins. Not all of Lewis fans share the same sentiments.

Someone who was confident of beating a fighter wouldn't have run away from a justified rematch and certainly wouldn't be watching the fight 30 times.

lennox lewis won .. that was the card .. I'm upset they didn't rematch but they didn't ..that's final .. I'm ok with it ! .. we were blessed with a war .. no need for sour grapes on either end

Still trying to put forward the theory of an illegal punch that supposedly opened up the cut?

You do know there were three major cuts and two lesser ones right?lol
I distinctly recall you stating Lewis was the more marked up of the two after the fight. Then I posted the photo of them both in the ring as the scorecards were read out and you fell silent.

Personally I'd say his toughest fight was his decision over Ray Mercer.

Lewis said Mercer gave him loads of trouble and the ring-size didn't help.
