What is causing professional boxer Joe Joyce to look slow when throwing punches?

His technique isn't great for one thing, good technique means the punch travels the minimal distance to land cleanly, shorter the distance the sooner the punch lands. He came to boxing late and you can see that in his poor technique. He's picked up poor technique and it's never been corrected and at his age it's likely it will never get much better.

Genetics too, some guys are just fast while others slow. Comes down the muscle fibre types you are born with. He likely has fewer of the fast twitch type II type and more of the slower type I fibers, which would also explain his insane work rate as you see athletes with more type I usually get involved in endurance sports.

You don't look slow when throwing punches because of bad technique. What the **** ? Some guys don't even think before writing their usual nonsense.

The guy is 6'6 and weighs over 260 pounds, of course he is going to look slow. There's nothing wrong with his punching, he gets leverage behind his shots and his combination punching is very good for such a huge mother****er.

 

He ain’t doing bad considering he is so rubbish.

 

He just isn’t technically sound, I wonder what age he started boxing coz he looks like a rugby player tryna box. For a guy who is a decorated amateur he looks like he picked up the sport last week. Nevertheless he will be handful due to his size, engine and chin.

 

Compared to Miller, Kownacki and Whyte, i thought Joyce was the quickest of the big power punching pressure fighting heavyweights . Questioning why a guy 6'6 260p isnt grease lighting is like doubting a flyweight because he cant bench 150kg

When people question Joyces athleticism

 

The most important thing he needs to improve is his defense. He is solid in every other department, just compare him to guys with similar physical dimensions and you will see that he is levels above most of those guys.

Joyce is so slow, he’s chin and output is his defence. I don’t expect him to be graceful, looking Ali but when you consider this guy was a high level amateur I’m just so confused at why he looks so amateurish.
