Is there a danger of no UK TV coverage? Done correctly this really could be the best form of boxing going. They seem to have done the hard part as well. Could the Channel 11 mob end up with it?
For a supposedly huge production, their website is ****-tier. They don't even have an updated schedule on there and hardly anything on the new tournament even though it starts at the weekend.
Love them or hate them, the WBSS really could learn from how Matchroom promote events, do t.v. rights etc. They have a fantastic product which isn't being promoted well enough.
there is so much else that the casual fan is interested in going on. tv stations dont want to commit to the entire tournament either. surely they will have it free online if no deal comes about. i cant see flanagan and taylors fight being unavailable to the UK
As I see it , whatever their production costs and the fighters purses, everything else is shoestring. Terrible undercards, mediocre broadcasters, PPV for everything in the UK on the cheap, no apparent long term plan for the future. With Kalle Sauerland involved, it won't last long. Look what's happened to Saulerland events since they left ARD ( the German BBC ). German boxing is dead. It was booming under his father.
I think they showed it all for free online for countries that didn’t have a TV deal anyway, so would hope they do the same again if nobody picks it up.
People on Facebook and twitter are constantly asking if these fight ( especially inoue) will be shown on British tv. They don’t bother there arse to even give an answer.
This season is going to flop. The super middles have always been a go to division and the cruiserweights last year were sensational. Neither the bantams or the light welters are going to capture the imagination in the same way and the cruisers this time are a rehash of last year but without the stand out fighter. That said , I still want to see it , only on tv, not online or by app ( it's not the same thing ).
The website isn't up too much either. Still showing last years schedule. It's a shame because if marketed and organised properly, this tournament set Up has the potential to change the boxing landscape. I'm surprised Sky haven't got the rights with DAZN showing it in America.
It just seems like a load of boxing people have got together to try and generate as much money as possible for everyone involved with outside investment, without really putting there heart and soul into it!
It really is crazy as this tournament has so much potential. Could be the Champions League of Boxing. Could also run smaller tournaments etc for heavyweights, to get into mandatory positions where the belt isnt available. If they promoted this properly it has a lot of legs. At the minutes its 50/50 if this gets past season 3 as surely they need worldwide TV deals to make the finance work on this.
Kalle made a fuss of the Smith Groves fight taking place in Jeddah because it's the Champions League Final of boxing and like Chelsea v Man Utd in Russia a few years back, the final takes place anywhere regardless of the participants , but could you imagine the group stage of that competition starting with no tv deal. Therefore, it is really nothing like the Champions League of Boxing, is it ?
Things haven't really moved on that much since the World Boxing Super Six and he was involved in that too.
