Brutal. Limon was tough and rough as old **** but Escalera was better. It goes 15 rounds and Escalera wins. But it would have been a hell of a fight.

Going with the Snakeman in a bloody bout (P.R. vs Mexico, I believe).

Is there a better international rivalry in boxing than Mexico and Puerto Rico?

Japan vs Mexico can be pretty fantastic at times.

Also, Japan vs Korea tends to produce some brutal fights, though it doesn't happen much anymore.

Lol I hate when that happens...you get all excited about a thread or matchup and then get a couple of replies...or even worse none...and then you see 18 threads on Joe Louis being Chiny and porous defensively, Marciano’s training habits and 10 Ali or Duran threads....oh well

For whatever it is worth I think Escalera would outbox him in an exciting fight, and take the decision

At 130, you mean? I like Limon. In order to beat him you had to have a special ingredient. Arguello had power, as did Chacon. Camacho had speed. Escalera didn't really have great power and wasn't all that quick, and he was a little sloppy himself. He got by with toughness and being busy. It was pretty tough to out-busy and out-tough Limon though, that was his game. Escalera just doesn't have the guns to hold him off.
