Being a counter puncher has nothing to do with walking guys into shots.

Your obviously a wilder fan so theres little point into any meaningful discussion here....your on defense mode to big up Ortiz more then he should be and brought resumes into it even when I SAID Ortiz is a top 5 effective puncher.

I haven't watched it for awhile, if I remember Ortiz looked rather leaden footed in that one .
My point really was Ortiz hasn't ko'd anyone of note to be considered a top power puncher and ,now his age is creeping up his ability to get himself into position to deliver his big shots is necessarily compromised ..Don't get me wrong, he can certainly hit,I just don't see him as a monster puncher.

Wilder was ko'd in amateurs. Anyone can be Ko'd. Vitali was knocked out in kickboxing, Tua was knocked out in Olympics. Lewis first loss wasn't a clear ko, the ref stopped it at count of 7.

Wilder's right hand lands on Lewis's face, not good. Must avoid that right hand

If Briggs can clip and stun Lewis , then why can't Wilder clip and knock him out?

Wilder is rangier , faster and hits harder than Briggs.

    This is utter nonsense.

    Golotas best wins

40 year old washed up witherspoon who had lost 3 of his previoud fights, obese 260 pound corrie sanders, stopped c level kevin mcbride, a draw with chris byrd

    Losses

Koed by lewis in 1, koed by tyson in 2, brewster in 1, austin in 1, adamek in 5, grant in 10, ud loss to john ruiz, dqed against a fat washed up bowe not once, but twice.

His record was TRASH by any standard aside from a decent amateur run and a bronze medal. He has ZERO wins against any prime fighters, let alone anyone in the top ten, and he never won a belt, major or minor.

    Briggs

    Best Wins

A ROBBERY decision win over 50 year old foreman, ko over nobody journeyman sargent for a minor paper IBU belt, ko over 44,000 year old ray mercer, obese bum chris koval, luck last second ko win over wbo champ liakovich in what should have been a draw.

    Losses

Koed by wilson in 3, lewis in 5, md loss to 9-9 record bum sederek fields, ud loss to jameel mccline, loss to ibragimov, 1 sided ass whooping by vitali,

    Ortiz

Won over 300 amateur fights, won gold in several competitions

held the wbo and wba latin heavyweight titles, and was the interim WBA title holder because AJ blatantly ducked him.

    Best wins

Monte barret, bryant jennings, malik scott, tony thompson

    Loss

1 loss to current wbc champ wilder

So you think the scrubs golota and briggs have better records than ortiz? Youre wrong on all accounts. Ortiz is more skilled than either of them and has a better record in both the amateurs and as a pro. He has better defense, better stamina, and better power. To say lewis wins over briggs and golota is more impressive than a win over ortiz is ignorance, stupidity, or both.

Walking and baiting someone into your punches is EXACTLY what counter punching is. How else would u define it? You cant counter someone whose running away from you or putting up a guard. The whole point is to hit someone with something they dont see while theyre commited to a punch.

No, you had a top ten list of the hardest current punchers and failed to list ortiz. If youre changing your mind now, fine, but i was responding to what you actually wrote lol. You listed guys who had less than 10 fights while trashing ortiz record, it didnt make sense.

Counter punching is the art of making one miss a punch and simultaneously hitting back...

That is not walking someone into a shot which is baiting.

I didn't list Ortiz bc he doesn't punch harder then anyone on my list who are in a different range of power.

I didn't bring up Ortiz record on actual fights bc if I did that then you would have something to really complain about lol , this is the problem with wilder fans.....

Dear lord. This is a question?

Lennox Lewis- Presided over the second golden era of heavyweight boxing. Beat at least three other greats in Holyfield, Tyson, and Vitklit. Beat dozens of good contenders and champs including Mason, Golota, Grant, Ruddock, Morrison, Mercer, Bruno, Briggs, McCall, Rahmen. Bowe was so scared from his amateur defeat, that he threw a belt in a trash can and ran from the man. Unified belts and beat every man that he faced.

Deontay Wilder- Has picked on a bread maker, a school teacher, two morbidly obese guys, an old man with high blood pressure, a few corpses, and notably, brought in a personal friend to take an obvious dive.

The answer is that Lewis knocks him how whenever he wants, and in whatever fashion.

    Close thread.

Both are counter punching. You dont know what youre talking about. If someone is commited to a punch and they get hit instead, thats a counter. If they are moving forward attempting to set something up and they get hit instead, thats a counter. If you bait a specific punch from an opponent, get them to throw it, and then they get hit instead, thats a counter.

If you think guys who have less than ten fights (dubois, sirenko) and whose wins are over cab drivers with 0-1-0 records have already proven to be better punchers than ortiz, youre an idiot.

Because Wilder has never charged anyone of merit at the opening bell unless you consider the great stiverne one.

I didn't say anything about a commited punch which is not just walking forward.

You cannot counter punch something without countering a punch...so how is that counter punching if the opponent is not throwing a punch? Makes no sense.

The only idiot would be someone who thinks Ortiz is a top power puncher based on his resume if were using resumes now? Because in fact you can go on much more then a a 5 fight fighter whos SHOWING extreme power right? lol

I like Lewis in this one. I think Lewis is somewhat underrated and would be a handful for any heavyweight in any era. With that said, I like Wilder as well. He is still early in his career and has chapters still to write.
