There wasn't because Canelo was fighting at 164.

Regarding the Golovkin fight he fought twice between Khan and Golovkin, there was plenty of time to make a Golovkin fight if he had so wished.

True to his word though like he said in that interview before the Cotto fight, he wanted to fight GGG in 1 or 2 years but he just currently wasn't ready to move up in weight. Well within 2 years to the date of that interview he had already fought GGG to a draw. And not at a catchweight, so I think you need to credit Canelo for doing what he said he wanted to do, and explained why he wasn't ready to fight GGG yet.

I think what you're missing here is that Canelo was very comfortable fighting at 154 / 155 lbs and putting on 5 extra pounds wasn't something he was ready to do yet, meaning that it might take some time before he's ready to move up to MW fully and fight GGG. Cotto and Canelo were seen as both blown up Jr Middleweights. Canelo is saying here "look I conceded weight to Floyd Mayweather, and to an extent again to Cotto, I gave into their demands but I'm not ready to give into GGG's demands". I think there's a point to this, that Floyd and Cotto were proven PPV stars and GGG wasn't. So he's simply standing his ground here and says he is interested in fighting GGG but not right away since he's never fought at that weight before. He's making it clear he needs to before he truly feels he is a full blown MW ready to take on who was seen as the best MW in the world.

Lol, GGG beat him twice. If not for Oscar Canelo would have lost twice to GGG and possibly to Lara.

Apparently robbing someone on the cards is destruction. Remember that 75 percent of boxing community scored both fights 4 GGG.

I'd rather see him face the top of the SMW division, but I have no problem with him testing the waters in the weight class first against someone like Fielding. It will be interesting to see if he decides to stay up at 168 lbs afterwards if he looks good in his debut. I have my doubts, Callum Smith is a VERY big guy for the division but I could see a possible fight with Canelo and Gilberto set up next May if he doesn't go for the trilogy against Golovkin.

Rocky isn't the worst possible opposition for a December bout but I can understand why people would consider it an underwhelming fight.

I was competing with a topic called The Abominable Cinnamon Strawberry Picker: Cherries Don't Hang Low Enough For Canelo but that's acceptable because that topic is clearly a joke (or is it ? ?) ?

But my topic of Canelo is daring to be great is so crazy. The double standards here are out of tune.

It seems in line with your actual thinking and I can't comment on the other thread as I saw the title and didn't bother opening it much like I don't read anything that has Sconiers in the title.

Different circumstances. At the time, GGG looked like an invincible KO artist at 160 lbs, a division that was devoid of some of the big names currently fighting at the weight class. The biggest names at that time (appx a few years ago) for him to fight all campaigned at 168 lbs- Chavez Jr, Andre Ward and Carl Froch.

Canelo isn't considered to be a "boogeyman" type like Gennady was a few years ago. Alvarez has also moved up weight divisions already in his career, Gennady never left 160 lbs to challenge himself against bigger guys. In the days where almost all great fighter's are multiple division champions, it's a negative mark on his resume.

I like both fighter's but the situations are completely different.

So if Froch or JCC Jr. had been up for it do you not think he would of moved up? And if he did well in either of those fights, a Froch one being particularly appealing, do you think he would of moved straight back down?

Just forget that fact that drug testing in the early 2000’s and before that was non existent in boxing. I am sure If Golovkin was allowed to take PED’s like certain PRIVILEGED divas he could move up multiple divisions without losing ability.
