Not much chance of that happening, I'm afraid! Inoue is such a huge favourite to win the whole thing, that it would be a major shock, if he doesn't. But Donaire should get in the Hall, regardless.
I'd say SRR at WW and Willie Pep at FW are clearer divisional number 1 picks. Not that I particularly disagree with Jofre at no. 1 at bantamweight though.
I’d add Wilde at Flyweight too. I think those four divisions have a clear cut #1. The other 4 are harder especially 135 where there’s IMO 4 great candidates. 160 has about 3 I’d say.
The piece on Rose was splendid, mate. Obviously thoroughly researched and with great descriptive prose too. I liked how much context and weight it gave to the ability of his opponents: Harada, Chucho, Sakurai, Rudkin, Medel. And the early part of his life. Dude is well worth his inclusion in the ten, no doubt - bollocks to the IBRO and them boxrec halfbakes on here. I'll be keeping an eye out for the rest and will give me ten pennerth on every piece if I have time. Take it steady lad.
Speaking of bantamweights, I read a great bio of the terrific 20ss bantamweight Bud Taylor. It's called "The Terror of Terra Haute: Bud Taylor & the 1920s". A great read and terrific insight into the division and surrounding divisions in the 20s
Thank you mate. I think in order to understand a fighter you must understand his opponents. Glad it came across!
Excellent article as one would expect from you, Flea. Good choice too in the ranking. Perhaps the most sublime exhibition of pure boxing I've seen is Rose-Harada.
