I saw that it lasted 53 minutes and said to myself that I'll watch a couple just to see, but it was over before I knew it. It really grabbed me. I was in Dallas Brooks Hall to see Barry's fight with Dave McCabe while visiting friends in Oz and always followed his career thereafter. Great Doc.

Great stuff JC. I remember the build up was huge here in Oz.

A pleasure mate, glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Scar, thanks mate, Michael is an incredibly interesting bloke ( even if his commentary gets a bit wearing ;) ), he had a genuine rock jaw and was never decked in his 50 plus fight career. My dad was good mates as a young bloke with Leo McDonald who managed Michael so even as a kid I had a soft spot for Barry.

I would have loved to have seen a card at Dallas Brooks Hall ( my family moved to Qld when I was only a toddler ) so I am a bit jealous of ya

Thanks Franklin. Hope all's goin'good mate, I remember we used to yarn a bit way back with Uncle Ted Sares

G'day JT, yep it was a massive fight in Melbourne and very well publicised in the rest of Oz.

Lester always reminded me a bit of Jaime Garza ( but with a better chin ) as a fighter. He had oodles of offensive ability, hand speed, punching power and excellent height n reach at 130 pounds but he definitely fought a bit too angry and perhaps could have had a few more fights to gain a bit more experience. Then again as Michael said he was always a brawler, never a boxer in style.

Frank Ropis vs Michael is also a really good fight to watch.

    Cheers Legend.

Great stuff. Lester gained a lot of publicity coming thru and was a good fighter that's for sure. What did you think of Brian Janssen and Pat Leglise?

Hey JT, my dad started taking me to Brisbane's Festival Hall to watch fights when I was 6 years old so I watched a lot of Brian Janssen's fights as a teenager.

The Chris Sanigar ( spelling ?) fight was one that comes to mind straight away. The beating that English kid took was unbelievable and he resembled John Merrick when it was stopped in round 7. I vaguely remember that Sanigar had already fought and lost to Sylvester Mittee and to Terry Marsh hence him being brought to Oz to give Jannssen experience.

It's a long time ago but I have vague memories of thinking Leglise was unlucky vs Janssen and deserved the nod. Typical Brisbane scoring ;)

I do remember seeing U.S import Charles "Choo Choo "Brown land perhaps the most devastating combination I have ever seen when he kayoed Leglise a few years after Pat fought Janssen. I have never been able to find film of that one.

I also remember the two Frank Ropis fights ( it was a decent upset when Ropis stopped Janssen in their first fight in what was a top fight ) and Janssen being kayoed by Dujuan Johnson in what was the American's last pro fight. That was a particularly careless piece of match making as Dujuan was a dynamite puncher.

The last Janssen fight I saw live was the farce at Chandler vs Kirkland Laing hehehe.

    Cheers Mate.

JC, to tell you a funny one. At 7:21 of the doc, there is a pic of the fight card between Barry and Earthquake Carter. Well the pic of Barry made me laugh because I know that pic. It is a cropped pic. But the full pic, which appeared on the cover of Boxing News made me laugh when I saw it because I was in it. Sort of hanging down off that upper balcony, but really visible. I guess my claim to fame. BTW, I love the pic in your avatar. My favorite Aussie fighter. Hector Thompson.
