To me, it looked like it came down more to speed and combinations, than power. Dubois just couldn't put varied punches together fast enough to break through Johnson's defense. I'm a fan of Dubois, but it looked bad for him. Dubois only just turned 21 a month ago though. For comparison: When AJ was 21, he was coming just short of medaling in the European Amateur Boxing Championships. (He lost to Nistor, who lost to Cammarelle, who lost to Omarov)
I didn't watch it because unlike the other goons on here I was viewing a tenfold superior live boxing match from Germany, but I do know that Dubois has always looked dubious...and if you aren't stopping Kingpin in 2018 you ain't really it.
To be fair, Johnson has only been stopped twice. I haven´t seen his loss to Milas, but wasn't that due to an injury?
I have been saying it all along: there is NOTHING about Dubois that impresses me. He is big, and average or just slightly above in all departments, so he will be at least a fringe contender. If he turns out to have good chin and stamina, he could even win a couple of big fights. But a title is probably a bridge too far, unless he catches a rebounding Fury coming off a coke binge, or the titles become fragmented and a Bruce Seldon type ends up with one. This guy is NOT a blue chip. With the vast wealth of blue chips actually out there, don't waste your time.
Joshua was the first to stop a somewhat still relevant Johnson but at an older age and more fights under him ,its why matching is IMPORTANT before you hit 20 fights and joshuas OWN career reflects his OWN talent. Dubois was looking for rounds and his style lets guys coast morso RIGHT NOW then they should bc he relaxes when guys clinch or don't present danger but hes had less then ten fights going in . Anyone putting much on this are new to boxing OR don't understand it...FACTS. The difference IS Johnson is coming off a win off a guy who fury just fought and picked , Johnson looked solid at weigh in, it may be better version who Joshua trampled ? It doesn't matter Joshua is clearly levels over Dubois and has intuition that DDD doesn't but lets penalize everyone in the division then bc Joshua is a unified champion in 19 fights ,they should be at his level too...lol
This. Joshua is simply a much better talent than Dubois both as an athlete and as a boxer. Dubois is only 21, so it would be in his best interest to be patient and develop slowly. He should get at least another 10-15 fights under his belt before even entertaining challenging for a title, since's he very raw. He also needs to watch his weight.
I'm a fan of Dubois, but I really don't think he was looking for rounds. He was trying to take Johnson out early, couldn't manage, and just had to resign himself to a UD after a certain point to avoid passing out from exhaustion.
I heard Frank weren't too happy with him, some saying his marketability gone out the window now, It sounds fickle but this is the way it is in the media. I didn't think he had quite Joshua's punching power. But I was a expecting a mid to late round stoppage. This is probably the stage of his career where Daniel starts bulking up even more. Johnson looked very big at 256, and dwarfed poor Daniel a little. Don't like to compare him too much with Anthony because of his age. But there's a noticeable size difference between them. The bodybuilder Joshua looked huge against Johnson in comparison. The strength in the punches were evident.
Frank Warren not best pleased cuz he is desperate for one of his upcoming heavyweights to outshine Anthony Joshua at any given oppertunity and he had hopes for this one and wanted another KO from his big hitting heavy but it turned out very different. Him and Joshua are different fighters, I think Dubois is ok, a good fighter with still alot to learn but Dubois is slower to the punch and that gave Johnson time to put himself in defensive and survival mode and hope for some big over hand shot out of the blue. I think Joshua just throws quicker combos and they were a bit too quick for Johnson to get away from. Another fight and another fighter may of offered up a few openings for Dubois and im sure the power is real. Everybody talks about carrying the power up in class but there power is there its just the defensive skills of your oppo that increases making it harder to land those sweet killer blows. But im not holding out much hope of him being a future king of the division. His power is lethal but unlike Deontay i cant see him going 35 fights before his level of competition becomes acceptable so we are guna find out soon enough one way or the other.
Very good Kevin Johnson interview by Boxing Social on youtube. Worth a watch if you are interested in this thread. This content is protected
its good that he went rounds johnson was the right kind of opponent/ durable but not much ambition dubois will be much better for it . you learn nothing blowing out opponents in 1 or 2 rounds
