I also favor Fury to win the fight and will be probably root for him, but as you say if Fury wins it will be an ugly fight to watch. I could see a DQ if he resorts what he did in the Cunningham fight. On the other hand, Wilder showed heart in the Ortiz fight so he could rebound after getting schooled for say 6 or 7 rounds. If Wilder gets the conditioning just right, maybe he could land something big in the late rounds when Fury inevitably starts to tire.
No. This fight is to find out who sits behind Anthony Joshua as number 2 in the division. Finkel, DiBella and Warren can say its for number 1 but they would. The rest of the division, the rest of the sport and anybody else who cares knows Anthony Joshua is currently sat on top of the heavyweight division. Its just the way it is. I know Wilder is a world champion and Fury is the lineal champion but the WBC champion but Wilder has been and still is having his opponants cherry picked for him and Lineal means **** all, especially when that Lineal champion never ever defended a single belt he won in 1 fight its hard for me, as a Fury fan, to see the worth in that title.
I’m not a fan of wilder, but he should be considered #1HW if he beats fury. The only thing Joshua proved by beating old and shot wlad is that he is really a poor boxer, stiff robot and povetkin fight just confirmed that. And sadly ,but that’s all AJ has .
Be that as it may, Joshua still never let himself collect rust (and blow up to over 350lbs) for three years of his prime. The deleterious effects of the layoff and the weight elasticity were plain in Fury's last couple of performances as compared with his Wlad form. Even if you were to assume that Klitschko-conquering Fury >> Klitschko-conquering Joshua, only the latter is even in the same ballpark of that form today.
Neither can become #1 until they have beaten each other and Joshua. Note: see there? - IMO, beating Joshua wouldn't be enough for either one, by itself, either, lest people accuse me of being some AJ worshipper. I'm not, and I really have no skin in the game when it comes to crowning a new undisputed heavyweight king. I'm not thrilled with ANY of the front-runner options, tbh. My guy (in terms of someone I like and would like to see as the division's king and by extension the sport's ambassador) was Parker, and we found his level, and unfortunately he ain't it. While my least-of-all-evils preference would, as is no secret around here, be Joshua of the remaining three, I would hardly call myself a super-fan. I'm pretty much as objective a voice as you'll find in parsing out the lay of the land in the unlimited class - most people have very strong and inflexible agendas when it comes down to HW.
Well, Wilder, having beaten a game Tyson Fury, at least will be able to claim #1 HW and it won't sound completely ridiculous.
"What about a guy whose 3 best wins looked pedestrian to flat out awful in the leadups to all three of his matches with them?" Yet you still picked those 3 guys who looked 'Pedestrian to flat out awful' to beat Joshua.
According to Ortiz fans it's not who he's beaten it's about who's ducked him that makes him so great. Joshua, Whyte, any other Brit heayweight, including early on in his career Henry Cooper and Tommy Farr lol. There's apparently cave painting in Cuba of British heavyweights ducking Ortiz some time around the early bronze age, lmao.
We all know this is a cherry pick by Wilder, he fought Ortiz after he looked poor vs Allen and Scott and now he's fighting Fury who has looked bad vs Seferi and Pianeta. Fury isn't the top heavyweight in the world arguably he's not even top 5 based off of recent performances. You don't become number 1 by cherry picking opponents and avoiding the consensus number 1 guy in Joshua. It doesn't matter who Wilder beats he has to beat Joshua if he's to be regarded as number 1.
