I'm hoping this is a fun way to get to know a little more about the posters on this board and hear some great stories. Me? I've been to a lot of great fights, mostly at Home Depot (formerly Stub Hub), The Forum, and a few other LA area venues. Rios vs. Alvarado 1, Salido vs. Vargas, Matthysse vs. Molina, Guerrero vs. Kamegai. All were wars, but none were really big fights. I have tickets for Wilder vs. Fury. It will be my first real PPV (hard to say Crawford vs. Postol was a legit PPV just because it was streamed by TR). As far as publicity goes, this will be my biggest fight. What have you attended?
Quite a few low profile matches. Biggest profile fight for me was Super Six Direll vs Abraham. Watching it live, many of us actually thought Arthur hit Dirrell with an elbow because his brother or uncle (forgot) got on the apron and was motioning with his elbow. We were literally seconds away from a crowd brawl. Crazier was that when Direll got up hollering who called him a coward; of all people it was his wife screaming it to Arthur. She has a really distinctive raspy voice. Amazing Andre didn't know his own wife's voice. Watching it at home, I see why so many thought he faked it. Looked different from the 8th row, on the opposite side. Couple of showtime fights at Chicago Pavilion. Andrez Fonfara, Lateef Kayode, Edwin Rodriguez. Gerald McCellan in Milwaukee.
What I learned about HBO/Showtime fights, is that when there isn't a large crowd, tickets are sold on one side of the arena & the camera pans only to that side. Showbox with Fonfara, fight was virtually empty, but when I watched it at home, the camera shots made it look kinda packed! LOL!
Prince Nasem v Kevin Kelley at Madison Square Gardens in December 1997 is the 'biggest' one for me and unlikely to be bettered. Looking forward to the super series in the Hydro on 3rd Nov featuring Josh Taylor
Yeah I was something similar at the Naz fight.....the 1st 6 or so rows around the ring were for media, vip's etc...I was then a few rows back. Still an amazing view!! HIstory will remember the fight u attended more than mine though....ha ha
The atmosphere for Joe Cal vs. Kessler looked great on TV. I loved Froch knocking out Bute. Froch is a guy I initially disliked, but grew to really respect. Total warrior, left it all in the ring.
