He’s definitely great but Legra was almost certainly robbed against him.

Both Harada and Jofre are top 50 all-time fighters IMO. And both top 10 bantams.

Everything you say makes perfect sense. But based on the footage, I’m not sold on Jofre having an argument in either. And for what it’s worth, he picked Harada as the smartest fighter he faced. He also said Medel was best puncher but not a hard puncher, just accurate, which kinda’ makes sense but is weird as Medel was clearly a destroyer of men who sent Jofre’s gumshield flying in their first fight and had him all over the shop.

But he’d know more than me!

You really feel Legra won that fight? I can’t see that at all. Even the Spanish press of the time had said it was fair. Legra himself said he felt it was a draw. The keys to that fight are that Legra didn’t follow up on his knockdown because the next round Jofre hammered him and he didn’t follow up on hurting Jofre in the 14th because he lost the last round big and with another point deduction. Jofre also basically swept the action from rounds 9-13 and up until then it was basically trading rounds. He just struggled too much inside with Jofre and had to hold a lot.

He (Legra) did show some quality in that fight and toughness. He was a brilliant fighter. The Famechon one is a fight he probably didn’t deserve to lose but the Jofre one was clean even if I felt two points off was excessive. I scored it 9-6 in rounds with a case for 10-5 or 8-7 Jofre with the feel more towards 8-7. Let’s say you lean towards Legra giving him extra benefit then it’s 8-7 Legra and we are left with the knockdown (of Jofre) and the two points off (for Legra) resulting for a draw at best for Legra.

Medel was excellent too. His violent KO of Harada and hurting Jofre with headshots proves his power and if I’m not mistaken he had a great KO win of a streaking Tolucco Lopez who at that time was top dog of the Mexican murdererers row of bantamweights. He also decisions Lopez for another great win. I just located his fight with Pimentel. I’ll be watching that for the first time in a couple of days.

The Pimentel fight was really good.

Yeah, I guess I give Legra more rounds than you did. There were a few other posters on here that agreed with me when the fight first became readily available.

Either way, talking about bantams; there is no way Harada - Jofre II is a draw! I struggle to give Jofre 5 rounds in that every time I watch it. Certainly zero case for him winning and I have never got why some feel that way. It’s one of the more bizarre things I’ve seen, but enough people see it that I don’t dismiss it entirely.

I’ll tell you now, Jofre is top 5 on my list but he’s not no.1. Mendoza’s earlier claim that he’s the easiest no.1 to pick in any division is outlandish at best, but most likely from a place of ignorance.

But you have made some good, educated guesses so you’re on the right track! But you’re missing out on 1, although I liked your guess for the one you wasn’t sure about....he will certainly feature prominently in some fashion!

I’ll have to do a RBR again soon but I scored it 8-7 in rounds to Harada with a deduction. I’m also fine with 9-6 Harada giving him a two point win. I know I gave Harada the last three rounds. In truth there were a lot of very difficult rounds to score due to the styles and Harada’s grappling and smothering. In rounds where Jofre got some space for the most part he edged them and in some Harada simply overwhelmed him. I thought Harada’s boxing looked better in the first fight and both just seemed to perform at a higher level in that one.

For what it's worth, my opinion on Legra-Jofre.

    Round 1: 10-9 Legra
    Round 2: 10-9 Legra
Round 3: 10-8 Legra (Legra scores a knockdown)
    Round 4: 10-9 Jofre
Round 5: 9-9 Even (I felt Legra won the round but he lost a point for holding)
    Round 6: 10-9 Jofre
    Round 7: 10-9 Legra
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
    Round 9: 10-10 Even
    Round 10: 10-9 Legra
    Round 11: 10-9 Jofre
    Round 12: 10-9 Jofre
    Round 13: 10-9 Jofre
    Round 14: 10-9 Legra
Round 15: 10-8 Jofre (another point deducted from Legra for again what appeared to be holding)

    Total: 142-142 Draw

I would be most interested in Featherweight or Lightweight...
But would benefit most from anything south of Bantam

Another great one Flea about a fighter I didn't know a lot about. As for Harada Jofre, I scored both fights 69-66 for Harada. I also scored Legra over Jofre close. I can't remember how I scored it but thought Jofre left it too late. I had Legra winning most of the early rounds. Interestingly I think the commentary was in Spanish if I remember correctly.

Just found my scorecard for that one on the "What fights did you watch today" thread.

Just watched it and I had Legra winning 143-141.
    Round 1 10-9 Legra
    Round 2 !0-9 Legra
Round 3 !0-8 Legra legit knockdown in a round he was winning anyway.
    Round 4 !0-9 Jofre
    Round 5 9-9 Legra deducted a point
    Round 6 !0-9 Legra
    Round 7 !0-10
    Round 8 !0-9 Legra
    Round 9 10-9 Legra
    Round 10 10-9 Legra
    Round 11 10-10
    Round 12 10-9 Jofre
    Round 13 10-9 Jofre
Round 14 10-9 Jofre Jofre hurt in this round but came back well from it to nick it from a tired and sloppy Legra
Round 15 !0-8 Jofre Legra deducted a point

I thought Legra got off to a great start. Some of those mid rounds and maybe early rounds Jofre was slipping shots but couldn't capitalize because he couldn't set himself. Legra's jab was the story of the fight at this stage. Legra was constantly moving or tying him up. I thought there was a lot of rough stuff going on particularly the head from Legra as you would expect with two world class pros with so much experience. I was a getting worried watching it where Jofre was going to catch up having only read about it and seen the score cards. Jofre did come back and started capitalizing from round about the 10th or 11th, the constant pressure started taking it's toll on Jose with all that movement and concentration he'd had to put in. The last 5 rounds were all Jofre though he was hurt to the body in the 14th. I thought he came back from that well and Legra was flagging by the end of it. It was a close one. I noticed during the fight which was the Spanish version that Pedro Carrasco had Jofre 4 points up at one point but scored a draw in the end. It sounded like the Marca had Legra had 2 points up and the third Spanish Ideal had Jofre. Nevertheless it was a close fight with plenty of rounds open to interpretation and it did look like a bantamweight against a featherweight. I thought Brazilian judge Newton Campos's scorecard was incredible 148-143 Jofre but checked him out and saw he gave Pernell Whitaker only 2 rounds in the Jose Luis Ramirez fight. For me overall, the early rounds Legra outworked Jofre.

It was the Spanish telecast from TV from Spain. I believe that fight was only transmit over radio in Brazil at that time.
