Not that current but I just happened across it this morning. It shows why a lot of people like him. He was never into boxing but it came easily for him. "Easy money" as he called it, even though he viewed it as a brutal sport. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/gennady-golovkin-boxing-canelo-alvarez
This man is my hero. He sold his belts and the unification dream with the 2 Canelo fight, but at least he cashed out properly. He also got robbed in the Olympic finals. Could be an interesting feeling that you got robbed in your 3 most important fights of your life.
Golovkin would have been an All time great Olympic Freestyle or Greco rOman wrestler had he not went in to boxing, he would have gotten sponsorships and had the Kazakh government pay for his living and get gifted vehicles and homes by the president.
Well, I don't think I could think more highly of the man as it is, great fighter, great ambassador for Boxing and a decent family man too..Old school
Big Gennady fan but WTF happened to GGG's "Mexican style" in the rematch? And why is nobody asking this?
Yeah there were bigger robberies in boxing, but none of them was watched by 1M+ PPV buyers and millions around the world. First fight wasn’t a robbery because at least he defended his belts, but the second fight was.
True, but rules doesn’t say how you have to fight. He landed 30-50 more punches than Canelo both fights, the rest is just talk. Canelo was also promising a knock out.
Canelo tried, GGG just walked back for most of the fight and didn't seem to wake up till around the 8th round. Which begs the question again, WTF happened to GGG's "Mexican style"?
Golovkin was closer to the knock out both fights. Canelo just survived the 10th round in the rematch. But as a Golovkin fan I agree that he didn’t bring the proper Mexican style (maybe if he was 5 years younger he would) but still one of the most offensive fighter of this era and his fights were always very exciting, not just for hardcore boxing fans.
He brought it a year earlier vs Canelo and not long after that vs Vanes. Why was he unable to do it in the rematch? Was it part of the fight plan? Did he just get old overnight? Did Canelo simply not allow him to do it? ????
Big Canelo fan but he lost both fights and is a drug cheat that gets gift decisions. Im a big Canelo fan.
