Everywhere in the World, except England (Joshua) and Mexico (Canelo). I realised UFC fighters have much more followers on social media than boxers, and UFC PPV’s are doing much better than boxing PPV’s. Also UFC videos have much more viewers than boxing videos. And it’s not just because MMA is more entertaining, it’s because in UFC there is no ducking and fixed scorecards. After Khabib-McGregor UFC got much bigger. Boxing sites started to write about UFC. And the situation of boxing just gonna get worse, if the champions still avoiding each other.
Then too, MMA spends more air-time showing the fighter’s history, where they came from, how they train. Does more to humanize the athletes and makes the viewer more invested. Easier too, to catch MMA airing @ random days/nights of the week. Can be damn hard to find a boxing match. Personally I think boxing is on life-support.
MMA doesn't protect fighters. They throw them in at the deep end and keep them there throughout their career. Look at Khabib Vs McGregor. That would never have happened so quickly in boxing. The business model is very fan friendly, the fighters don't get paid as much as in boxing but we get to see more competitive fights than we do in boxing.
I’m guessing that’s because you have so many different organizations, promoters, networks etc. in boxing. With the UFC there’s only one governing body which cuts out the delays and rubbish that comes with boxing. The having to wait years and years for a fight to happen (e.g. Pac/Mayweather) wouldn’t happen in UFC really. Also the tune up fights - you don’t get that in UFC much (e.g. Woodley returned from a year off and was straight in against the no.1 contender on Till) Not sure I agree with the deep end comment. UFC matchmakers are good and so bring fighters along rather than just tossing them to the slaughter. If you had some examples would be good.
Miocic has much less followers than Wilder. Followers don't mean much because you can buy followers and a lot of twitter followers are bots anyway. In america it is. Outside of america not so. Most of the cards UFC puts together are just as poor as some boxing one's. I'd say they're on par card wise. UFC has been struggling in the last two or so years. Conor came back and rejuvenated it once again because UFC is Conor at this point. The problem with UFC for me is Dana White. ''Throwing fighters in with the wolves'' can be detrimental to their career. Yair Rodriguez for example vs Edgar. Dana wanted to build him up as a mexican star with a flashy style but he got Edgar too early.
How do the financials compare? I'm not into the whole vs debate, but isn't the big money still made in boxing?
The UFC is good at "hot shotting" to the fights the fans want to see straight away. But they have lost Rousey and McGregor is on the way out. That is two major losses for them. McGregor WAS the UFC. Joe average doesn't care about most anyone else on the card so he is going to be a HUGE loss for them. As for boxing, its doing fine everywhere, the US lacks stars right now because their main guys lack personality but if Wilder beats Fury and Joshua he becomes a 10x bigger star than anyone in MMA. Basically the UFC is a very well organized and run company but it's never going to surpass boxing, it doesn't and will never have the history behind it, and even in a weak era for boxing its not even close when it comes to big fights. When boxing cycles into another golden era the gap will become vast again.
Ufc is bigger then boxing… has been for few years now. Joshua and canelo only ones keeping boxing semi close
Any top level fighter has fought at the top level on UFC for a very long time. It's because they don't punish losses as much as they do in boxing.
