It’s my understanding that Wilfredo’s dad trained DeJesus and Wilfredo was at one time Esteban’s sparring partner. How would they have done against each other? Esteban was too small to move up to welterweight, so a compromise at 140 would seem reasonable.
This could very well be the outcome I just dont like reasoning. I never bought into this style of reasoning
So if A beats B, and B beats C it stands to reason that A must beat C? I agree that Benitez would win, probably by a decision, but not because Cervantes has anything to do with it. I don’t see him going to war with DeJesus, but rather using his foot work, superior defense and countering him rather successfully and as the fight progress I think Benitez would become more aggressive and take a comfortable decision.
I think Esteban was busier and far stronger. Over 15 I think PRIME DeJesus of 1976 beats the young wonderkind. Maybe by stoppage. Better talent more aggression better counterpuncher.
You think DeJesus was more talented then Benitez? Benitez was one of the greatest talents to put on a pair of gloves a true prodigy.
Yes. And so was DeJesus. Without Roberto Duran in the picture, DeJesus is a long reigning champion. He had enormous talent.
Benitez a little bit fradge at 140 but also naturally the bigger man and super fast. I like him by decision.
Benitez is 5'10" ht , with a 70" each. DeJesus 5- 4 1/2" ht, with a 67" reach. Benitez a natural WW; ... DeJesus natural LtWt. Size difference too much. A serious Benitez by UD, or late TKO.
DeJesus was an excellent lightweight, but Benitez is the bigger and better fighter here. Will by very clear UD.
