Showtime have real competition as of 17th October 2018..

No longer will Al Haymon hold boxing hostage. Matchroom, Golden Boy, WBSS..No longer will the US fans be bankrupted by these ludicrous PPV prices.

Canelo is on DAZN. Do you hear that Spence, Garcia, Gervontaa, Charlo's, Deontay, the lot of you? There are no excuses now to turn them down. The two biggest stars of all are on DAZN. Showtime can brag all they want but the big boys aren't on their platform any longer.

Now all they have to do is convince Hearn to set this up in the UK so we can get rid of this crooked organisation named Sky. Sky HAS to go. I can't bear this rubbish in the UK any longer.

    EXACTLY this.

We can expect a procession of stiffs interspersed with outrageous refereeing and judging. I feel that the Canelo trend of favourable decisions is only just starting here.

It also means DAZN are planning to stay in boxing even if their cooperation with Hearn doesn't work out for some reason.
Good news for boxing in general.

Use your head, this is excellent news for matchroom. It likely means more co-promoted cards and bigger fights and because Canelo will bring big numbers, more exposure for his fighters.

Not entirely true. You still have to keep winning in MMA to be a big draw. The odd loss isn’t a big deal, but if an MMA fighter goes on a losing streak its guaranteed to hurt their numbers or could even see them being dropped from the UFC. If McGregor loses again in his next fight he will not be as big a draw.

It’s the same in boxing, a few losses on your record doesn’t affect you if you’re on a winning streak. If Canelo were to lose but then continue winning he’d still be a big draw, but can’t afford to KEEP on losing after that.

I really think it’s the fans that have this myth in their head that losing an undefeated record or a single fight in boxing has a drastic effect on a fighters fanbase/PPV numbers/opportunities.

Of course. Look at the AJ treads on here which talk about him losing one fight and that would mean the end for Matchroom and the end for AJ. It makes no sense at all that a fighter losing suddenly sees his fanbase just disappear.

You are right a run of losses is something else but losing the odd fight is the name of the game.

I think with Hearn/Matchroom having possibly Jacobs & Andrade as Middleweight Champions (very soon) we will see unification fights between Canelo, Jacobs, & Andrade in some way. No easy fights their imo, then you could also see BJS trying to get his WBO title back from either Andrade or Canelo. Golvokin trying to win back the IBF from Jacobs or Derevyanchenko, then rubber matching Canelo, all on DAZN, all possibilities and mostly in house now.

great news. this is a power move, it says were here to take over. i guess this really is the future of boxing.
just think, if canelo worked a regular 40 hour workweek like a regular joe, then he just signed a contract for a minimum of $25,000 an hour for the next 5 years.
would you take peds for that kind of money?

I hope you're right. The next few years could be AWESOME if we had a mad mw cookup like that.

What I fear is Canelo fighting 2x a year against stiffs like Fielding and maybe the Khan rematch or a fight against zombie Floyd or **** like that. And judges score cards like 10-2 being the norm.

Also a possibility. Though DAZN has to know they are not gonna keep the subs up if they approve fight after fight like that for Canelo. Fielding & Chavez Jr. (as much as I hate Golden Boy & I hate saying this) are not the norm for his opponents. Canelo arguably has the best resume in the game today. I'm sure he will take the occasional layup fight like Fielding, but I don't see him only fighting a collection of stiffs and nothing but for at least another 3-4 years. Unless Golovkin took a lot out of him Canelo probably still has another 3-4 years (age 32-33) of prime left to cement a ATG legacy. I think he fights several more tough fights before he turns into Mayweather and cherrypicks past it name after past it name. Of course this is all speculation.

Huge statement by DAZN by securing Canelo. Things had been a bit underwhelming since they had announced their intentions to launch in the US, but this was probably always their big move. Why overpay for Garcia, Broner, Spence etc when you can save that money and bag Canelo the only PPV star in the US right now.

I expect other boxers now to look at DAZN far more seriously. If you're a heavyweight or a middleweight you'll want in on DAZN as they now have the 2 biggest stars in boxing in those divisions.

US boxing fans should be delighted no more paying $60-70 for Canelo fights. This move makes sense too by taking the one proven PPV draw off the table you make fans wonder why they were ever paying $60-70 for PPV when they can just get a monthly subscription for a fraction of the price. It might just kill the PPV model in the US.

DAZN securing Canelo will also boost other fighters confidence in the DAZN brand, making fighters who were on the fence about Eddies offers to fight with matchroom on DAZN more likely to jump onboard
