You can sure they'll raise the price alright, the question is over how long a period of time and what the price elasticity is for fans to say "No Mas" to it.
I am from Germany. DAZN launched in 2016 here. They showed a shitload of boxing this year. Can't even name all the big events they showed.
I don't think DAZN in the US will show showtime events. I could be wrong. I think DAZN bought the rights for EU since showtime isn't available in EU. So EU is obviously getting a waaay better deal, especially if you got to see Canelo/GGG with 10 dollars a month.
the service is a good deal as it stands now. $120 a year is what you would pay for 2 of canelos fights anyway, plus you get so many other boxing attractions. The only thing that worries me is that a lot of the pomp and pageantry that made these events a black tie affair, will be lost without an hbo type production crew. hopefully it dont get turned into a circus.
I mean tbqh nearly no one I know around my age (25) owns a tv, streaming is a+++, wont whine in any way, I can nerd out n play world of Warcraft and watch the boxing
Between HBO, Showtime, and PPV, I'm willing to bet most fans already pay more than $360 per year. Granted, many of us will drop HBO. I am. In my case that is $15 per month that I've reallocated to DAZN and ESPN+. If I eliminate 2 PPVs per year, that saves me $150 per year. Up to, say $20 per month DAZN is still an overall cost savings if it eliminates 2 PPVs per year. $30 per month is probably where I'd jump out, though.
I think it could be good for the sport long term much like it was for the UFC to properly take over MMA. It might not work but I'm hoping for the best anyway. It's not like it can get much worse than it now right now.
I can see the price rising. That's a natural thing, we have seen it with Netflix for example. DAZN have never said it will be $9.99 for it's whole life time. Once they start buying rights for more sports naturally subscription prices will rise. DAZN have to show it's still good value UFC we're kinda lucky that pride FC died. They had no real competitor.
What smart TV brands is DAZN even available on? The first thing they ought to do is make an effort to, you know, actually make the app available on all commonly owned platforms.
