Is it time we start viewing Canelo as a future ATG?

Nah I expected Golovkin to knock him out both times, was very surprised he was able to make the fight competitive tbh

Did 75% of fans call it a robbery or did 75% of fans score it for Golovkin? Two different things.

hes already the best mexican north of welter of all time and he has 6 good years to perfect his already elite game. if he can clean out 168 before retiring, which is not out of the realm of possibility, he would definitely be an atg.
most, if not all, of the greatest fighters had close fights that some may feel they lost, its the consistency at a high level that seperates them from the guys who benefited from the stars lining up just right for that one fight.

Take Drugnelo's empanada out of your mouth and come up for some air once in awhile.

Well we have reached an impasse. Because I will argue until I'm blue in the face that Canelo ducked GGG in favor of an over the hill Golovkin.

First of all Moonelo is NOT the peoples champion 80% of boxing people think GGG won both fights CLEARLY so their champion is stiil Gennady Golovkin
As for Moonelo an ATG ? Who can say because only one fight he didn't have every advantage in was Floyd. where he got schooled.
Also he debatably lost to both Lara & Trout but home cooking got him the decisions Counting the 2 GGG fights he also lost Moonelo could & should realistically have FIVE losses on his record
    ATG ??? No Way

Canelo. I said and I quote "My heart says GGG, but my brain says Canelo. How often does an over the hill fighter over 35 beat an elite p4p fighter in their prime".

There isn't any difference between the Golovkn that foguth Jacobs and the one that fought Canelo.

Fanboys / haters like you are just salty that Golovkin didn't get Canelo while he was still at 154. You knew he'd be better after acclimatizing to the weight so thats the only reason why you're tormented . lol /haha

And he is, but that's not incompatible with being an excellent fighter as well.

I think he was too, he had the best resume, but he didn't prove it "without doubt" - Lara fight was very close and there was no rematch, plus he didn't fight either Charlo.

Due to judges giving him the benefit of the doubt twice, even many Canelo fans would admit that something like 1-1 is a fairer representation. But your point stands regardless.

I doubt he can rule 168 lb without some extremely crooked judging, in my view Smith and Zurdo are just too big (even though Canelo is more skilled than either).

I don't think we should worry too much about the # of weight classes, if he beats guys like Jacobs, Derevanchenko, Charlo, Andrade, Saunders at MW that would mean more than Rocky, De Gale, etc.

I'm not sure I can agree with this. While he does fight the ones we want to see most, he takes enough soft touches (Kirkland, Rocky, Smith, Khan, JCC Jr in the last 3.5 years) that at 2 fights / year he can only fight about one good opponent per year (Cotto, GGG x 2 in the same time-frame; and everyone in the business knew he would beat Cotto FWIW). He could've instead fought two top opponents per year; almost all top fighters these days are way too inactive and Canelo is no exception.

However, despite the quibbles above, I agree with your conclusion. He'll make the HoF easily and will likely go down as some form of ATG. One disclaimer: at the moment he's well behind Floyd/Pac, and I doubt he catches up, but that's considerably higher than the bar for ATG-ness.

My heart and brain went to Golovkin both times, but I was wrong.

Either way, the fight would have been better in 2016, but by 2017 it was still a huge fight and the best that could have been made.

I just can't call a fighter a duck when he makes the fight within a year and then takes a rematch. Each to their own.

GGG was mandatory for years. But Canelo didnt want. He used the 155 excuse. Well 155 is MW. Anything over 154 is not within any lower weight than MW.

My heart said GGG. But then i looked around and noticed that guys over 35 pretty much never, if at all beat young and elite fighters.

I have mixed feelings on Canelo status as a fighter right now. Not sure where i see him in the grand scheme of things but at the moment hes one of the top p4p fighters in the sport and thats all i know for sure. Regardless of whether he deserved to win either fight against GGG the fact is he never looked over matched in either fight and never came close to even sniffing the canvas.
