based on combination of accomplishments in the 90's (80's and 2000's accomplishments don't count), and head to head. 1. Holyfield 2. Lewis 3. Bowe 4. Tyson 5. Moorer 6. Foreman 7. Mercer 8. Morrison 9. Ruddock 10.Holmes
I would have the same top 6, slightly different order. I'd probably remove Morrison, drop or remove Mercer, and maybe a few other swaps and replacements in the latter half.
Herbie Hide should probably get a place. Tyson is not top 4 merely on just his 90s achievements. Bomber Bruno did more than Ruddock... My list goes: 1: Holyfield 2: Lewis 3: Bowe 4: Foreman 5: Moorer 6: Tyson 7: Holmes 8: Mercer 9: Bruno 10: Hide McCall, Seldon and Morrison probably all feel they deserved a place.
Top 2 are a no brainer - the order probably depends on how you feel about Holyfield and Lewis. 1. Holyfield 2. Lewis 3. Bowe 4. Tyson 5. Foreman 6. Moorer 7-10. Pick some names out of a hat.
Most of those lists are spot on, only point of debate is who ranks higher between Moorer and Foreman personally I'd pick Moorer even though he lost to Big George he has better wins overall for me.
Not sure what Foreman did to be merited so highly. Outside of the Moorer win his 90s resume was distinctly underwhelming. Coupled with the fact that he struggled to get past Stewart and Schultz and failed to put away the fragile Savarese while losing to both Briggs and Morrison, and there's not much to separate him from the other hard hitting HWs of the decade.
Foreman is grossly overrated. If he's getting a top spot based on his win over Micheal Moorer then Douglas's win over Tyson and McCall's win over Lewis make a serious case for entry on this list. Foreman lacks depth in his comeback trail and frankly the first 2 fights that come to mind when you think about comeback Foreman are Moorer and Holyfield. Not two big wins; a win and a loss.
He's been rated between 4th and 6th places on the lists so far - so an average of midway on the list. Seems fair to me.
Using a list of guys who were active and in their prime in the 1990's with a least 5 years fought, which excludes the Klitschko's who are best rated in the 00's. 1. Lewis 2. Bowe 3. Holyfield who is 1-4 vs Lewis and Bowe on fair scorecards 4. Ibeabuchi 5. Tyson 6. Morrer 7. Holmes 8. Foreman 9. Tua 10. Mercer Honorable Mention: Morrison, McCall, Bruno, Briggs, and Byrd most of whom would rate in the top ten in other decades.
Forgot about Ibeabuchi, good call Holyfield has a better resume than Bowe. So even though Bowe is 2-1 vs Holyfield, I don’t see how he ranks higher. Holyfield beat 6 of your top 10 and is 7-3 vs them (not counting Lewis). Bowe did not beat anyone else in the top 10
Not when he does so little to distinguish himself from the other mid-tier guys. His win over Moorer is an historic accomplishment, but outside of that his resume is thin, with many of his performances underwhelming. I think people trade on his name and his age to boost him up a few places he doesn't quite deserve.
1) Holyfield 2) Lewis 3) Bowe 4) Tyson 5) Moorer 6) McCall 7) Foreman 8) Mercer 9) Ibeabuchi 10) Holmes I was reluctant to put Holyfield top as he lost his series with both 2) and 3). There's a reasonable argument to put either Bowe or Lewis above him based on H2H, but Holyfield also beat most of the above top 10 (and any other top 10 you care to put together). From 5) downwards everyone's record is either thin or patchy, but I think McCall should be ranked higher than he has been so far in this thread. He stopped Lewis, and most of the others in that bracket have no win close to that. He also beat Seldon and Damiani, who held titles at some point. There's an argument to have Ibeabuchi higher, but you're really comparing two fights against someone like Mercer who has plenty of good wins and close decisions losses with the decade's elite.
