Floyd Patterson vs Ken Norton (Best Versions)

Two nice guys duke it out.

Patterson hits hard, but his power won't intimidate Norton (ala Foreman).

On the flip side, Norton doesn't use Sonny Liston like intimidation.

    Who wins?

Alright Longhhorn ,How u doing bud?
Good little match up .I've gotta go with Kenny I think .Not a wipeout for Norton ..Floyd's hand speed keeps him in the game catching Norton .But ken a little to strong and manhandle s him and tag's Floyd frequently. A hurt and fazed Patterson gets stopped not long before the final bell .

Norton usually folded against good punchers, and Patterson had the worst chin of any champ. So the answer is the guy who lands first, which due to his blinding speed, would be Patterson.

a real tough call. Overall, Norton may have been too big……..but if Patterson lands that left hook he did vs Johansson, all bets are off.

I think Norton. He got the bad end of a few close decisions and he might be rated much higher today if he'd had a little luck.

    Really like Kenny here.

That body punishment is not going to do Floyd much good at all. He gives up that body and holds those hands way up extremely high. But Norton is no headhunter and giving up the body is disaster against a guy throwing a ton of left and right hooks to the breadbasket. And that oddball jab I think lands against Patterson as well & thwarts some of the Patterson jumping in with left hooks thing he did. And if Floyd is not landing with his left hook, what chance does he really have?

Great conditioning by Norton also, so things get worse for Floyd as rounds go by. As soon as Floyd shows the effects of the sustained body attack, Kenny comes upstairs with those looping rights. Tko 6 in a 1 sided drubbing.

Norton, Patterson has power, but nowhere near Foreman, Shavers, or Cooney. I like Norton in 5-6 rounds.

I like Norton but i think it would go plenty of rounds and Floyd would give a decent account of himself.

Wow, I didn’t think I would be the lone Floyd guy. I think this is a potential great hypothetical match. I think Floyd’s speed would be the difference here, and look for him to win on the cards...but I wouldn’t rule out a stoppage either.

I don't think Patterson gets blown out by any means but I think Norton is too big, tough and awkward for him and that he eventually wears Patterson down. If it were a 6 rounder I'd pick Patterson. Maybe even 8 rounds.

Although Norton was KO'd a few times, they were big men and classed as some of the hardest hitters ever, im not sure the smaller Patterson punches hard enough to get Norton in real trouble, even with his good left hook. Norton tko late

My problem with Floyd's speed is that Ali's didn't stop Norton from doing his thing, and although Floyd may be faster than Ali slightly, its in the same ballpark, and he's not as big strong and robust as Ali..I could never ever see Floyd winning by stoppage mate lol....All opinions though, who knows !

I pick Floyd in this one. I think Patterson’s combos would do it. Floyd was suspetible to getting knocked down, but not knocked out. Only two guys actually put him down for the count, that’s better than Ken’s track tecord.

You're not Philly! Eras aside (which would favor Floyd), Floyd has a great chance here:
Granted the Ken body attack frightens me a tad but...
    Sonny would have destroyed Norton.
Is Ken's right to the 'chops' harder and, out of nowhere, quicker than Ingo's? I think not.
Floyd fought many fighters who hit harder, or as hard, than Ken and he went nowhere.
Floyd came to slug but his bob and weave antics may have been something Norton had never seen before.
Don't underestimate that LH of Floyd's or his combos. Ali was cautious, he stayed 'clear' for the most part in both fights. Anyone else? They were all cautious. I could easily see Floyd hurting Ken at any moment.
IMO? Floyd takes a UD, maybe floored once, but not staying down which he never did.
In closing why do so many posters tout Floyd's power yet regulate him to a tiny fighter who couldn't hurt any of the 70's fighters??
