Boxers most consider great, that you don't

Ike Quartey-- I believe Ike Quartey was every bit as good as Oscar and Tito both of which in the hall of fame. I think at welterweight with that jab he would be a hanfldful for anyone.

I know Quartey is thought highly of by a lot of fight fans but it doesn't seem like many think he was great due to his inactivity and losing decisions to Oscar, Forrest, Vargas and Winky. I just rewatched his fight with Osacr and that fight definitely could have gone his way and he absolutely robbed in the Forrest fight. Losses to Winky and a prime Vargas is nothing to be ashamed of and if he was a little more active I think he could of accomplished much more. Would have loved to have seen him fight Tito.

 

He's definitely starting to slip down too far if anything. I look forward to seeing where he ends up on your Heavyweight list.

 

That's a fine post man. Morgan, Sharkey and O'Dowd are all great shouts, obviously Marcel and Payakaroon too; they've become forgotten and dismissed on here since the old crowd has lessened. Samart gets ruled out by those who've only seen the Fenech fight and Ernesto gets holed as a one-fight wonder despite pasting Shibata, Nemoto, holding his own with Duran ffs and outclassing a superb technician like Gomez twice.

There was a thread not along ago where Mendoza ridiculed Chang for losing to Gonzalez and Kittikasem, apparently the best he faced and only being in his mid-twenties when he burnt out also being a problem. Oh, and Zapata lost before Chang beat him and also afterwards, so those fights didn't count either. Says it all.

I find this very interesting. Why would you believe this.I don't no anything about him.

 

He’s the greatest Muay Thai fighter of all time, an absolutely incredible defensive fighter blessed with unparalleled reflexes, an iron chin and knockout power.

Built like a puncher, but insanely durable and defensively gifted, he had no drive whatsoever and smoked like a chimney. He was supremely talented. Beat a former world champ in his boxing debut. Just watch him, he was sublime.

All-round I think he’s the best standup fighter of all time, the fact he transitioned to boxing so easily leads me to believe that we had the best fighter in our ranks, so...yeah, that’s my hypothesis anyway.

 

Walter McGowan doesn't get the credit he deserves, a beautiful boxer who suffered with cuts. Twice he was outclassing Chartchai Chionoi in title fights before he was cut. Here's he is giving away weight to Ronnie Jones at bantam before the inevitable caused by a clash of heads. Now this is boxing

Yep! Plenty of unloved flys and bantams! Even some of the greats get a paltry return from so-called hardcore fans.

 

McGowan was ****ing nuts. Footwork of a ballerina, awesome jab, bled like a stuck pig, no power, fighting mentality of an inebriated crazy *******. Too Scottish, lads. Just too Scottish.

Me dad always said he was the best "boxer"he ever fought and he mixed in good company. Lionel Rose was chasing a fight with Walter after he KO'd Rocky Gattelari. The thought of that fight fascinates me, it could of been beautiful.

Tommy Gibbons - Rarely given a mention in a discussion about great heavyweights, where I believe he always should...

Floyd Patterson - A top 10 all time heavyweight imo, where probably 90 or more % would not agree
