Is it time we start viewing Canelo as a future ATG?

    Hes a good fighter but his legacy is going to be marred by all those controversial decisions.

    In a buzzard way, had one or two of those fights gone the other way he might actually be better thought of

    Too many controversial “wins” - Lara, Trout, GGG. If he was anyone other than Canelo he would have up to 5 losses on his record by now (including Mayweather) and he’s only 28. Would you still be calling him a future ATG if that were the case ?

    The problem is that Canelo’s BEST “wins” are controversial decisions that could have, at best, gone either way

    You know the same can be said about GGG.

    This goes with the territory when you fight top competition. The thing is Canelo has fought consistently more top competition than GGG and in more divisions. Having said that, talk of Canelo as a future ATG is totally unwarranted at this moment.

    I wasn’t talking about GGG but since were bringing him up he only has one controversial win against Jacobs . Canelo has four controversial decisions including GGGx2, Lara, Trout, and that’s not including his disgraceful draw against Mayweather

    The point, which clearly went over your head, was that Canelo has more controversial decisions than GGG because he has fought more top level opponents. Barring a KO, most evenly contested fights will draw some criticism by the losing side thereby creating "controversies".

    Canelo already is an ATG. Beating undefeated Middleweight King GGG and becoming unified MW Champ cements that.

    What is your point exactly? My point is that ALL of Canelos BEST wins are controversial and until he has a defining win without controversy he does not deserve to be ranked as an ATG. I don’t necessarily disagree with what your saying , but it does not change the point I am making .

    Two of Canelo's best wins were over Cotto and Amir Khan. Those weren't controversial at all.

    It wasn't at 160, it was at 155, 1 lb over Super Welter.

    Khan is currently ranked #6 in the world at welterweight by the WBA.
    Khan is currently ranked #5 in the world at welterweight by the WBO.
    Khan is currently ranked #8 in the world at welterweight by the WBC.

    Khan has never even won a belt at super welter. And the fight against Canelo was his first and last time fighting above 154
