Which contenders, considering all weight classes, lost the most title shots in a row? Keywords are in a row...

Andrew Golota had three straight title shots. A draw with Byrd loss to Ruiz and he was ko'd by Brewster in the first.

Holmes lost his last 5 title bouts. 6 if you want to count the offshoot title in the Neilsen fight.

Right but does Golota have a slightly better record than Axel Schulz in this regard? Schulz also had three cracks in a row at a world title [versus Foreman, Botha & Moorer respectively] but lost to Foreman, had a No Contest vs. Botha then lost to Moorer. Golota at least managed a draw which is better than a no contest so correct me if I'm wrong Steve but Golota has the better record over Schulz here, right?

A draw is better sure. Consider this though a lot of people thought Golota beat Ruiz and Byrd and a lot thought Schultz beat Foreman.

Jersey Joe Walcott challenged Joe Louis for the title twice and then fought for the vacant title against Charles, in back to back to back fights, and lost all three in a row.

I was rooting for Shulz against Botha, after what happened in the Foreman fight. But I thought Botha won pretty clearly. I don't recall it being viewed as a bad decision at the time, either. Axel just got a third fight because Botha tested positive.

The fans rioting was probably due to frustration more than the thought that Axel won. Everyone went there to see Shulz coronated after the Foreman fight, and Botha appeared to win a couple more rounds. And all the drunks went crazy at the end.

You had Shulz over Botha and Foreman over Shulz.

I had it the other way around (Botha over Shulz and Shulz over Foreman).

I liked Axel Shulz. I rooted for him every time he fought. I wanted him to beat Botha (and Moorer). I just don't think he did it either time. I thought he deserved the win over Foreman, however.

Botha was a good fighter. He outboxed Mike Tyson before he got caught. He fought an exciting fight against Moorer before getting stopped. I thought he deserved the decision against Shannon Briggs but didn't get it. And I thought he outboxed Shulz. I don't think Don King paid off any judges.

Every time Don King promoted a fight and there was an unpopular score, people said he paid them off. There were bad decisions before King and there have been plenty since he was the top guy.

Shulz's team was the side making payoffs. The IBF accepted a $300,000 bribe to rank Shulz in the top 10 for the Foreman fight.

If Don King was going to pay off anyone, it would've been those doing the drug testing.
