Wilder's Power On a Historical Scale

that big crushing, bomb of a right hand that puts opponents to sleep all the time and everyone in the HW division tries to avoid...
...Deontay Wilder's signature hard right hand...just how hard is it & how would Wilder's right have fared against the greatest heavies of all time like Ali Frazier and Foreman, etc.?

 

In the pantheon of boxing, he is easily one of the hardest punchers that ever competed in the sport.

 

Ask me after Fury.

 

Its probably pretty high but the sample size of quality opponents is still small. Its not just his power but his willingness to sell out and rely on it. We have seen quite a few fighters with a heavy arsenal not pull out the big guns until their opponent was properly softened or to put them away once accidentally utilized on preference of the safe game.

 

Wilder is not that powerful. Took him 8 to put out Molina, who was stopped in 1 by both Arreola and Ashanti Jordan. Took him 11 to stop Duhapaus, who was put out in 6 by Povetkin. 9 for Szpilka who was put out in 4 by Kownacki. Couldn't stop Stiverne the first time, when the man was stopped by Demetrice King in 4.

Wilder is a clever marketing ploy. They mostly match him against medically unfit fighters (Harrison, Lyakovich, Stivern, Arreola, Ortiz), semi-professional fighters (Molina, Duhapuas), fringe contenders (Washington, Szpilka) and occasionally bring in a friend to take an obvious dive (Scott).

He is ONLY fighting Fury because they feel he is medically unfit. I think they are going to be in for a surprise.

As for how hard he hits...a little harder than Fury, or non-PED Povetkin.

 

I'd say its a little overated .There is no doubt he hits very hard but there are polenty of guys out there that do.

He no doubt hits very hard,harder than other contemporaries? I'm not so sure.
Does he hit harder than Ugonoh or Ajagba? One of Ajagba's opponents got as far as entering the ring,but whenAjagba climbed through the ropes he decided to exit and, oblivious to the boos and cat calls walked out of the arena.
ps Ajagba has sparred with Wilder and reportedly given him good workouts.

 

Wilder has supernatural power in that right hand courtesy of the occult. The satanist Al Haymon introduced him into 'the club' hence why Wilder always talks about Devils, manifesting outcomes, 'speak it, believe it, receive it', wanting a body on his record etc. Note the all seeing eye pyramid that he wore on his jumper in the post fight Ortiz press conference. Fury knows this, hence why he looked in Wilder's eyes at the sit down and said, "I've beaten you before", which was in relation to beating the devil worshipper Klitschko.


Dodgy character. Not natural power. I fear for Fury. This could be a reason for why AJ ducked him. Joshua was being interviewed about Wilder on Sky Sports after one of the fights, and he made a deliberate effort to say "it's the devil in the detail" four times in under 40 seconds. It was blatant.

 

Well first off, it's only the right hand. Hardly a case of 2 fisted power and his opposite hand compared to other hitters might be poor at best. Probably on par with Cooney's right hand.

We really have yet to see him in there with concrete chin guys for a test. Polar opposite, guys that get stopped and have koby results on their ledgers. But it is a dangerous punch but he needs about half the ring to launch it from way on the outside. It is not a short punch and is effective from one distance. Kind of like a Bonecrusher Smith. His gastank and endurance to throw it for the whole fight is, to me anyway, the best feature about him. Lots of hitters lose their snap & he does not.

And that becomes a big factor when facing guys standing right in front of him that have dropped their hands.

 

I want to hear the excuses once he decimates Fury and AJ. I already know the excuses that are gonna come after he cuts Furys lights out. "He's been off too long, he wouldn't have done that to a prime/more active Fury."

I can't wait until they fight...…………...

 

Not everyone wants to avoid it, Whyte's been trying to go up against that right hand for some time.

He hit's hard but so did Earnie Shavers and Tua, how hard he hits isn't as important as how effective he is at delivering that right hand and in that regard he's lacking.

 

Any good boxer would try to avoid it, its called a defense.

 

What about outside the pantheon? Does he still retain his power?

 

His power is pretty good, he KOed the Mascot and dropped Charlie Z.

 

I think his power is A+ but its the delivery that is lacking. Duhaupas took his bombs for 11 rounds without crumbling. Povetkin who does not hit as hard as Wilder stopped him way earlier because he was able to accurately place his power. He looks like a giant Tommy Hearns - 90% of Hearns' boxing skills.
