“Porter rest clean believes in himself”

A lot better than he gets credit for, won 300 amateur fights and only lost 10 or something like that. 2 time world champion and golden gloves winner.

100% soit on, great post. I think he was a middleweight in the amateurs.

I think he was mate. When a fighter is a bit of a scrapper and hard *******, they never get any credit and I can't work it out. I thought he boxed beautifully against Garcia.

Your right he did box beatifully v Garcia. It used to be the same here with Carl Froch and Scott Harrison for example. Like Porter they were world class amateurs but found they could create a style combining skill and strength that worked for them in the pros but many observers would call them one dimensional plodders with great engines and chins, but who lacked boxing skills. When in fact both had terrific boxing skills and fundamentals to go with their strength and incredible engines. Unfortunately if you dont dance around the ring on the back foot with quick flashy hands many fans dont think your got skill.

Couldn't agree more. The other name that popped into my head was Froch as well - and not being his biggest fan. To some extent GGG doesn't get the full credit he deserves from a technical point of view. Porter is very hard to beat, even for the best boxers.

No doubt. Thurman v Porter was very competitive.

Maybe Brook became hacked off with the antics of Bully Joe Saunders and a bad atmosphere in and around the Ingle gym.

Good post. It's boxing elitism, because some people don't admire a certain style they automatically hate.

Exactly. That and people having a lack of boxing knowledge as it's easier for someone without little knowledge to see someone is fast and has quick hands. Much harder for them to see great close footwork, how a fighter does cut the ring off, shot selection etc. How many people have you heard over the years say Khan has the skill to beat Mayweather lol ? I have heard plenty. When asked what skills in particular they say Khans speed. That sums it up.

He beat Usyk in the amateurs which might be one of the strangest boxing stories ever.
