Irish Boxing

Anybody see quigleys fight...? What did ye make of him? He doesn't seem to have improved at all to me? ?
What are his strengths? Well he is big tall and long. He seems tough and durable not particularly prone to cuts and injuries, getting hurt easily etc. He has a relaxed fluid style that doesn't burn too much energy.

What are his weaknesses? While his style is relaxed, it is also somewhat sloppy, careless and too loose. Defense wise he is far to open. He has zero , literally zero defense, against a left hook. ... Neither glove nor shoulder placement nor head movement. Really majorly lacking in defense .

His footwork is slow flat-footed and generally poor too. He nowhere near takes full advantage of his height and reach., which he should be doing.

His offense is weak. His long punching is loose sloppy and lacks crispness speed and power. His short punch is poorly delivered also. He doesn't appear physically strong either.

It's hard to describe but All in all Quigley fights like a guy that is sick or jet lagged... A bit laid back dizzy dozy slow n sloppy.. .careless ... lacking concentration . The prognosis is not encouraging. I feel that After 15 Fights if he had what it takes he wudda shown it by now...and for me he hasn't. He has plateaued at a far lower level than I hoped.
What do you think of Jason Quigley?

Don't know what went wrong but at least the tweet was readable! John Joe Nevin hasn't really pushed on has he? Very inactive fighter. Pity because his olympic profile should give him an advantage?

 

Total size bully. Like a poor man's hurd or callum Smith. I don't like that.

 

Only saw a bit on You tube....He looks AWFUL!!.....sorry to see it. I thought he really had the talent to maybe have a crack at the top. Seems like a good kid too.....would love to see him go all the way,...but now?? Loolks tired ....listless.......I think hre should have stayed in California if he really was serious.....he's wasting whatever talent, that he had.

 

Yeah Mike.. The whole fight was petty much the same. A sloppy uninspired performance. He really shudda bossed that fight.. .He was bigger younger etc etc. But Jason just can't seem to stamp his authority on opponents. With his amateur pedigree and success at the semi pro WSB? ? Thingy I had high hopes for him. As usual no Irish fans are commenting...( They never do unfortunately.. Dunno what we havean Irish boxing forum for at all to be honest but anyway) . But comment on line generally has been very negative.. He is only fooling himself... I feel Jason better buck up or give up.

So where are we after the weekends boxing. Katie shines on as brightly as ever. Tennyson can hold his head up high after a better than I expected effort against a nightmare opponent, Tennyson can definitely come again. . and as for Quigly...well let's just say Does he have an alternative source of employment?

Quigly has turned out to be the very definition of the overhyped prospect. It's by no means certain he would beat Spike or Luke Keeler ...in fact both could well beat him today.... .in other words as of now he is domestic Irish level at best. ( In fact a fight with either gent might be an idea for the hapless Jason.... Give us an idea of lwhere he lies. ) He's like Andy Lee with no punch. It was telling during TV time that even goldenboys ultimate " company shill" bhop couldn't get enthusiastic about him... If that's the best he can do he should pack it in.

 

Sadly.....yes. But I think this guy 'Training' him has maybe a lot to do with it? Just hope he realizes it himself!!

 

You mean Dom Ingle? The guy might well be a bit of a twat alright, unpopular with many, but there is nothing to suggest he is a bad trainer , is there? He seems to have been successful with plenty of other boxers for years. Had a good win with the ever loveable kid Galahad in USA this weekend. Dunno if what's missing from Quigly can be fixed by a trainer, no matter how good.

 

Yes, don't know anything about Ingle....(Me being a Yank, and all)....But I used to follow Quigley's twitter account. ..Before I got kicked off Twitter... I know when he was training in California, they used to call him 'El Animal' cause he trained so hard...and I think besides being Homesick, which is very understandable, he wanted to change up his style with Ingle.

 

What did you do to get kicked off twitter? as I say I don't think what Jason lacks can be fixed by a trainer. Did you see Brant v murata? Now THAt was a fight. Those guys have what it takes, in spades. When you look at those two..uper echelon middleweight boxers ....such commitment, decisiveness, Will and skill .And then look at Quigly...dithering indecisive sloppy ...hes got the will, but he ain't got the skill..or the ability to implement it.. . Well I think you get my point....
