Calzaghe or Fury

He spent most of the fight gassed out and his only tactic was to lunge in recklessly with right hands hoping to get lucky. He looked like crap.
The fight was a boring hugfest as well. Punch , hug , break for 12 rounds.

 

You know he done that prime too?? Eubank always lunged, even in the early days

No , in the early days he followed up a good jab with a sharp right hand. He fought like a drunk against Calzaghe.

 

no he never won anything before nor after it. He was late stand in, completely unprepared physically, but still a tough chinned guy.

Joe and his team wanted someone with a name who wasnt going to show up in spirit.

 

his lateral movement was gone as he admitted.

 

on that single fight basis alone yeh but joe did more later since he made 2-3 fair to good defences over the 10 year reign, which fury failed to do.

if fury had made 3 or more good defences after wlad, like froch did, then he'd be ahead of joe.

 

Eubank was a good mover, but if you upset his movement or posing movement he could look stupid ! Always lunged though

 

Eubank literally never won another fight. Dude was shot, drained, and on short notice.

 

zags. i think fury is pretty ordinary, i dont harp on it because people get butthurt and think im being a hater, so i will just let the rest of his career show you who he is... or rather which excuse you will need to explain the rest of his career.

 

Hard to compare across weight classes, but Joe had more tools than Fury. Neither have/had elite power, both have/had good footwork; they move differently but both were effective.

Joe's hand speed and angles were better than Fury's, though.

 

Thing is, prime he wouldn't of beat the same fellas he lost too imo in Calzaghe and Thompson anyway. He fought with more heart and will than many of his performances where he scraped by opponents he should've soundly beat with those two. He wasn't in his physical prime, but he wasn't shot to bits, drained yes, he was again always struggling to make weight, well documented how he would just starve himself to make weight. I think he could've done a bit of damage at 175 towards the end of his career also

 

Hardly appropriate to pit a supermiddleweight against a Cruiserweight is it? He did however beat multiple people of thompsons calibre or greater at SMW. amongst them benn, watto, rocky.

ANd we just dont know if he'd have taken Calzaghe or not, because he was so very post prime and unprepared in their actual bout. From that bout we can surmise Joe couldnt stop prime Eubank. A fully committed, prime Eubank would have a fair chance of stopping joe, based on joe getting hurt by lesser punchers ...though you'd say joe had a fair chance of outpointing him too, in cardiff.

 

no, he wasnt able to win in the watered down IBO title fights, which are barely above national level. though he tried gamely, i give u that, and gave a good account.

eubank shouldnt have been in the ring with joe, but was game on the night. it was simply supposed to be a guaranteed win that Hearn and joe set up for themselves.

You know Calzaghe wasn't prime to don't you ? He was a pro 4 yrs when facing the battle hardened Eubank. You have to look at both stages of their careers when assessing their fight. I don't doubt that prime Eubank would've done better, but you have to surmise a prime Calzaghe would too !
