How well could RJJ do against the best of Rex Layne?

Rex layne was a tough, strong Heavyweight and big for his time. but in reality, his size is not that imposing at 6´1 195 Pounds.
his strength and toughness would allow him to extend jones and Maybe even last the entire distance. but personlly i see him being way too hittable. jones would have had a field day with him, cutting him up for a late stoppage.

I havent seen enough Rex Layne to give a fair answer. I suspect Jones on points.

Jones may have been a good heavyweight back in those days. I just don't see him getting past Marciano.

Layne vs Jones is probably a pick em fight.

I feel like this was targetted at me

RJJ UD, but Layne's right hand might connect and send Jones to dreamtown

If Walcott couldn't outclass Marciano, Jones sure as hell ain't

Walcott was much more crafty, and hit harder

i doubt he hit harder than jones. and jones Speed and Timing were on a totally different Level. sure, Walcott was crafty…….but so was James toney. and he couldnt hold a candle to him. nor could Hopkins. nor could anyone in jones prime.
im a boxer myself and trust me, Speed and Timing are IT! power is great too, but Comes a distant third. it´s romantic to think that being crafty can overcome everything……..but it s not realistic. the gap is way too wide.

    Im a boxer as well

Its a combination of Power, Chin, Stamina, and Speed, as well as mastery of your own style, are what wins fights between ATGs

Walcott definitely hit harder, his power is proven against ezzard charles, Jersey joe, a first round knockout of Shkor, the first man to knock down marciano, marciano later on called him the hardest puncher he ever fought.

Jones... Failed to knock out (or down) Ruiz, Hopkins, Tarver, etc.

i completly disagree. jones ko´d virgill hill with a single bodyshot. he flattened montell griffin in one. or thomas tate in two, thulane malinga with a single Punch in round 6. or the Ultra tough merqui sosa in two.
even when he was basically shot he still dropped iron chinned Joe calzaghe.

with the exception of the charles ko, Walcott´s power wasnt that impressive. he couldnt ko the much smaller joey maxim (even losing one) in three extremely close fights.
he couldnt ko Joe baksi. he couldnt ko elmer ray in two fights. he couldnt ko Jimmy bivins. or lee Oma. or Rex layne. or even that awefully limited german hein ten hoff. and he needed two fights and 18 rounds to finally stop the China chinned curtis shepard.

so there is Nothing that suggests that jones was any less powerfull than Jersey Joe. only he was many times as fast. a much greater Talent.
