No fight this close can convincingly ,or logically be termed a robbery.

    • Unofficial AP scorecard: 9-6 Ali
    • Unofficial UPI scorecard: 8-7 Norton

So we agree that media scorecards are not any "proof". Good.

Obviously Sumbu on points, he was at least a bona fide elite, with multiple elite scalps on his resume. He would have the nous to work 3G out, who has yet to show he can beat an elite.

However I stress, "yet " - I believe we are yet to see 3G make his own case to be a bona fide elite and then HoF. Trust me on this, SMW glory awaits him. I feel he will show himself mightier than Sumbu by picking up several elite scalps at MW and SMW over the next 2 years.

And then, we will reassess this question, and we may well have a different answer.

but we cant use evidence of knocking out middlers as evidence he beats Sumbu, that would be a joke. Like saying ahh Butterbean knocks out loads of bums so surely he can beat Wlad Klithscko.

3G leaving everything so late has worked against him sadly. If only he'd dumped the ibo belt and headed into the world scene earlier.

Kulumbay on points. Styles make fights and GGG is not creative enough solve Kulumbay's style.

Its a bad decision when one guy clearly out land the other with more accuracy on every punch, and there are no knockdowns.

Did you read the quotes and data I provided? What counter do you have? Even Ali himself said he lost!

" Ali said during an interview with Mark Cronin in October of 1976: "Kenny’s style is too difficult for me. I can’t beat him, and I sure don’t want to fight him again. I honestly thought he beat me in Yankee Stadium, but the judges gave it to me, and I’m grateful to them."

Norton said after the fight: "I won at least nine or ten rounds. I was robbed."

Neither man was hurt. Ali was very popular with the media, and still a cash cow for boxing. Norton won that fight 9-6 on my card. 8-6-1, okay too.

    Punch stats:

    Norton landed 281 to Ali's 199
    Jabs Norton landed 94 ( 33% ), Ali landed 71 ( 20% )
    Power punches Norton landed 187 (54% ), Ali landed 138 ( 35% )

    Bokaj,

If you want to score this fight round by round, let's post the video. You might agree with me that Norton won it.

    • When 2/3 of the media cards say the wrong fighter won, its a sign the judges were wrong

    • When the punch stats are clearly in one fighters favor ( landed and accuracy ) in a fight where no one was hurt or floored, but the judges did not see it that way, its another sign the wrong fighter won.

    • Finally the winner admitted he felt he lost this fight.

One can not argue Ali won on ring generalship or quick counters because he didn't.

Ali was still a cash cow. And an iconic figure of hope. They were not letting him go 1-2 vs Kenny Norton.

Wait, we've gone from "GGG would outbox and outbrawl Hagler easy!!" to "Sumbu Kalambay would outbox Golovkin, no doubt!" in like six months?

I wouldn't bet on Kalambay if you gave him a baseball bat.

I've had Norton winning by a point both times I've scored it. Just like I've had Canelo narrowly winning both fights with GGG. Neither with Ali-Norton nor GGG-Canelo have I felt “disproven“ by the majority of media cards not agreeing with me.

Based on what, exactly? Based on the way GGG blows out non-entities? His resume is literally nothing.

no its not nothing, he has 2 good wins, lem and DJ. A unification and a number 1 contender.

I tihnk you mean he has no toptop, ie elite wins - which is fair enough, but lots of fighters dont have elite wins - sturm and abraham , 3Gs two contemporary rivals.

they are close in defence tallies and were around at the same time as him, hence I call them contemporary rivals. Sadly rivals that never met.

They are more similar to 3G than you think, both have no elite wins, and few number 1 defences.
