Absolutely it’s all down to current form and how say a Crawford or Lomo despite moving up a division are automatically favourites to win,how they win also plays a part as boxing is difficult even against average guys one can look bad or lose,PFP guys make it look easy until Father Time catches up.
He can and does but I suspect he will of learnt loads from the Postal fight, his body punching is world class and has the skill to be more evasive.
Should Heavyweights be in PFP discussion in all honesty,I mean if he beats Fury and AJ he’s automatically the baddest man on the planet.
Of course, Mike Tyson was P4P #1 in the late 80's. Wlad Klit was top 5 a couple of years back. The notion that HW's should be barred from the p4p list is ridiculous and nonsense. There's tons of fighters who stay in 1 weight class and were #1 p4p, Hagler in the mid 80's was an example. This is the argument most like to say, HW's are only in 1 division! They should be barred! Nonsense!
Fair enough can’t say I know enough about PFP listings anyway and I do remember Wlad being rated.obviously it must mean something different to when it was hypothetically created so someone like Ray Robinson could be rated with the baddest guy on the planet no? Oddly enough despite the stick he gets I might have to agree about Wilder, guess we will find out against Fury, some would argue though that he doesn’t win enough rounds to be PFP though he always gets the knockout.
It's just silly that a good # of people on this site claim that HW's should not be p4p because they fight in 1 division, makes no sense whatsoever. Anyways, he's definitely barging through if he beats Fury soundly. Well imo the most emphatic way to win are knockouts and he knocks everyone out, how much more dominant can you truly be?
Yep for sure and I think we can put to bed that they are lucky KOs as time after time he gets the knockout round about round nine lol.Im of the opinion he fights down to the opposition he’s facing which is mighty clever as he still hasn’t shown his hand yet imo. I’ve said my fair sure about Wilder over the years but I’ve always maintained that despite what some on here think about him his peers and other promoters don’t think like that about him,he’s feared and respected and what he lacks in skill he makes up for with his athleticism.
He started boxing pretty late compared to many other pros, so the lack of skill is definitely justified imo. The fact that he medalled, became WC (Still WC after 3 years), he's already overachieved when we take into account other factors. That being said, him vs Joshua is a very very good fight. Joshua is favored for sure, but Wilder always has that chance.
Yeah, but there's no mention of Gonzalez, Lomachenko, Donaire, Golovkin, Crawford, Inoue, Garcia, Ward, Kovalev, Canelo, Joshua, basically all the big names of this decade. It reminded me of an old newspaper article I read from around 1956-1960 where Rocky Marciano named a bunch of guys who he thought could be the next great heavyweight and I was like "Who?" I didn't recognize any of the names. They weren't even top contenders. And nowhere to be found on his list were Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, or Cassius Clay. The whole complexion of the sport can change in a year or two with people shooting up out of nowhere.
Yep amazing how it goes, guess you could say re HW division now that in a few years with Usyk,Dubois and a few others it can only get better.
Yeah agree n in and around that division in a few years is gonna have some great fights. Him, Lopez, valdarez, stevenson, tank, Ryan Garcia ect.
Frampton was FOTY but his resume was not that great. If you had him on a list, he was more likely to be on the bottom of it. He then lost the rematch and has not done anything of note since. But i get your point. Some guys just pop up out of nowhere for no reason. Gonzales was a nobody, only a hardcore fans darling. Suddenly he was P4P number 1! Spence beat Brook and boom! Everyone had him on their list...
Callum Smith, nope. Josh Taylor, yep. Dmitry Bivol, if he keeps fighting corpses, nope. Errol Spence, if he keeps fighting corpses, probably, he's already in most peoples. Sergiy Derevyanchenko, he'll beat Danny, but no, not yet, but another top win, maybe. Oleksandr Gvodyk, after he slays the Pimp, bring on the Steamroller, then yes.
