Was Anthony Joshua's lack of an above average jab, exposed against Povetkin & Joseph Parker?

Was Joshua's jab exposed to be average at best, for a super heavyweight, in his last 2 bouts?

  1. Yes

    39.3%
  2. No

Wlad boxed and jabbed Povetkin's ears / head off. Had his head snapping back the whole fight. Povetkin had no clue what to do, other than just charge in with his head (which is illegal by the way).

Povetkin was lucky Wlad showed mercy in the 2nd round when he dropped him with a glancing left hook, for not finishing him off then and there. Povetkin was helpless there but Wlad decided to be merciful to the hometown fighter that was Povetkin.

Joshua's jab didn't break Povetkin down, Povetkin's 39 year old legs are what broke him down. A shot 39 year old Povetkin did better against hypejob Joshua, than prime Povetkin did against past-prime 37 year old Wladimir Klitschko.

And you probably missed the multiple times when Joshua held and hit Povetkin. Including with the uppercut. BUH Wlad hold DOE and excessively clinch DOE. Illegal move is illegal move. Holding and hitting is worse than simply clinching.

    1) Wlad isn't my 'boy'. I care very little about him.

    2) The opponents he dominated, aren't any more average than any other top boxers in any other era. Joshua's opponents aren't any better.

    3) Wlad clinched? When Joshua went with anyone good, he used rabbit punches and holding and hitting tactics. Meaning, Joshua's tactics make him even worse.

    4) Joshua corkscrewed Wlad's neck? And I'm meant to be impressed because? You are aware 37 year old Corrie Sanders had already stopped a primer and a better version of Wladimir Klitschko in 2 rounds, right? As in, he actually legitimately stopped him by dropping him more times in fewer rounds than Joshua did. You are aware of this, correct? Which makes Joshua DOG CRAP!

This same Wladimir Klitschko with a horribly weak chin, stood up to everything feather fisted Joshua landed and this feather fisted Joshua couldn't even keep this 41 year old, suspect chinned Wladimir Klitschko down for the 10 count and needed a standing, premature stoppage whilst Wlad was blocking all Joshua's punches.

Speaks volumes about how poor Joshua is!

Poor Joshua is doing ok, in fact poor Joshua is doing better than you in life.

Maybe concentrate on your flaws and getting better as a human being.

All this wasted negative energy only harms you. Good luck with everything hope my words of advice help.

You should avoid making dangerous assumptions about someone else. Hopefully this piece of advice helps you. Since you have no idea WHO I am, or WHAT I am.

They certainly did , and Joshua knew they would , thats why he threw them at the body and chest area and not at the head/face area. Getting poked by a heavy hander like Joshua right into the gut, plexus and chest takes a draining effect on the stamina.. Not sue why you can't understand this:thinking:

Joshua's jabbing tactics paid off , thats why he was more effective with the jab than Wlad was :sisi1

Also , Povetkin wasn't anywhere near a shot fighter. He was still very formidable at 39 , just like Vitali was still very formidable at 39.
Lots of heavies have been capable at at 39 even when a bit past prime. Holyfield was 39 when he almost beat Lewis in the rematcH - past prime , not shot.
Walcott was 39 when he put a pasting on Marciano for 11 rounds - past prime , not shot.
Lewis was nearing 39 when he beat Vitali.

Povetkin will fight on cos he still has plenty left. He actually looked leaner and fitter against Joshua than he did against Wlad , and he said himself he was in better shape for AJ - physicaly and tactically.

Still , AJ beat and stopped Povetkin with pure boxing , while Wlads only approach to the fight was to illegally bear hug him which was allowed by a corrupt referee. Wlad shouldn't even have been awarded a win against Pov..
The rightful decision is a DQ loss !:eeek::icon_pc: :polutxoso:

Joshua's jab was a key component in his victories over both Povetkin and Parker, so if anything it proves the opposite.

Joshua's jab is never going to be an ATG of the division, but it's a very solid weapon that he's slowly built up and incorporated into his arsenal to increasingly better effect. It's far from a weakness in his game.

Not many guys bother to jab to the chest. And if you don't know what you're looking at, it can be interpreted as a missed punch. It is not. It is a planned punch carefully executed. And interestingly enough, the jabs to the chest cause a lot of problems. It's just that the sport is full of headhunters.

That was one of Kenny Norton's tactics for the Ali bouts---jab to his inside shoulder. So people like the announcer Howard Cosell think he's missing. He isn't. He's doing exactly what he wanted and what it does eventually is to take away Muhammad's jab later on in the fight. Then Norton is able to land right hands over the top which he cannot do early in the contest. But it takes time and patience to do it and pull that kind of thing off. That's exactly what Joshua was doing.

But like mentioned in other posts, the Joshua jab was effective at what it was able to accomplish against those 2 fighters. Povetkin is not all that easy to hit with a jab. The other thing he does is to counter it and move into his zone he likes to punch from with those combos. That jab kept Parker away from initiating anything. He does not counter and move in like Alexander does, so he stays on the outside more. And Parker started falling for feints, so the jab had an effect in there.

Who you are is a guy on a boxing forum negatively criticising somebody who has achieved more in boxing than you have or ever will. If your posts were genuine, we could of had a reasonable debate about Joshua's flaws, but that wasn't your goal. Your goal is to try and tear down somebody who is successful. Probably because your life is terrible and you hate yourself.

What you are is a silly sausage.

First step on the road to recovery is admitting you need help.

I'm not going to get to much into here with you bc I know better as it's another semi troll thread and debate but here goes.....

Parker was never out jabbed leading into the Joshua fight and after against Whyte who has more variety of jabs then Joshua .

Yet still the UNPROVEN jabber in Joshua ? Lol manages to out jab what many considered the best jabber in Parker? Makes sense...lol

Povetkin admits he is a far stronger fighter now then what he was in 2012/2014 and claims a different result may happen if Klitchko fought the current version....

let's also forget while we're here bc I'm not coming back..lol....that as I've stated Joshua knew not to throw many jabs bc that is how Povetkin gets in so Joshua mixed the jabs more to the body to set up for a huge shot upstairs...

It is why he waited for a left hook which was the first punch that dazed Povetkin and he finished him off soon after with 2 knock downs , one in sure you'll argue even though Povetkins trainer also stopped the fight .....lol

What are we arguing about? Anybody can see that AJ is very basic comparing to Wlad, and close to his prime AJ is pretty much on the same level as ancient 41 Wlad.

Actually, Joshua wasn't very effective with the jab against Joseph Parker. I can barely count the number of actual flush, damaging and effective jabs Joshua landed accurately on Joseph Parker. The same applies in reverse too. Both neutralized each other as far as the jab and punches are concerned but the argument for Joshua winning, is him being the superior ring general. Not due to his superiority with the jab.

As for Joshua's jab against Povetkin, the key component for Joshua winning was Povetkin being 39 years of age and not having the durability / stamina he once had. He has endured far more in his career than just a few tapping jabs that Joshua landed on him.

    1) Evander Holyfield was 37, not 39 against Lennox Lewis in the rematch. A 39 year old Holyfield was losing to an inferior John Ruiz.

    2) Lennox Lewis also 37, not 39 when he fought Vitali Klitschko. Lennox Lewis was retired before he even reached age 39. Wanna know why? Because boxers start declining by that age. Not sure why you can't understand this.

    3) You won't find a single 39 year old heavyweight (not 37 year old), that had success at the elite level with a young man's style like Povetkin who uses a very physically taxing style. This applies to pretty much any sport like boxing. Boxers by that age aren't no longer at elite level.

    4) Joshua wasn't more 'effective' with the jab than Wlad. Wlad landed more jabs in total on Povetkin's face and pretty much boxed his head off. Joshua landed tip tap jabs which were pretty much nothing.

    5) Being 39 years old, and using a physically taxing high intensity style, also makes one run of stamina. Povetkin was nearly out of stamina against David Price. And David Price didn't have to land all those tip tap jabs. Just by being 39 years old, and fighting with such a high intensity, leads to a drain in stamina. A prime Povetkin has managed to endure far more than simple tip tap jabs, without losing as much stamina whilst also being able to last the distance. Joshua's tip tap jabs did very little. Povetkin's age was what caused him to gas. He is no longer a 12 round fighter at the elite level anymore. We don't need to see his fight against Joshua to know this. Even David Price exposed this little fact!

    6) Vitali Klitschko is a tall, super heavyweight with a much more economical style. Not comparable to a small heavyweight with a much more taxing style. Super Heavyweights like Vitali Klitschko can do, and are expected to do better at an older age than guys like Povetkin who take more damage, fight with a higher intensity and fight with a more physically taxing style.

    7) He can say what he wants. Doesn't change the fact that historically speakinh, being 39 years of age, doesn't favor boxers at the elite level. Nor does it change the fact that accumulation of damage is going to be there at the tailor end of his career, where he was previously beaten and therefore damaged by Wladimir Klitschko and even took damage against David Price, and taking damage at an old age is very costly. Joshua got to a fight a shopworn version of Povetkin. Means very little!

    8) Povetkin was ILLEGALLY jumping in with his head. You're right, Povetkin should have been disqualified for doing that against Wladimir Klitschko. Yet, despite fouling, he still took a beating of his life and got dropped multiple times in the process. And you seem to ignore Joshua's rabbit punches and holding whilst hitting tactics. Those are also illegal! Those are not part of 'clean boxing'!

Can you prove any of those things? If not, then it didn't happen.

You have no idea whether I have achieved more than Joshua in life or not. Nor do you have any idea, how much happiness I have, relative to Anthony Joshua. For all you know, I could be someone even richer with even more money, living in a private island whilst letting my personal AI's do the typing for me. You should NEVER make assumptions about someone!

And you were the one who initially started to belittle and tear down Wladimir Klitschko's success. Yet, you're lecturing me about tearing down someone else's success and how I'm terrible because of that? Do you smell hypocrisy?

You're right! You absolutely need help. That's definitely the first step towards your recovery.

You get all into your feelings and get totally butt hurt when Joshua gets criticized. And have to start attacking a different boxer to deflect. Pretty pathetic!
