I'm sitting here watching Baer vs Carnera on the big screen and started thinking.... what if Max Baer was in the ring with a prime Wlad Klitschko instead of Carnera. Would he be able to get to Wlad?

wlad and carnera have About as much in common as a bicycle has with a Mercedes. wlads jab alone would leave baer helpless.

Bicycles and Mercedes are both forms of land based transportation that rely on rubber wheels to move from point A to point B

Awwww, you click baiting ******* i thought this thread was maxie "slapsie" rosenbloom vs wladmir. THAT would have been a hilarious fight while it pasted.

Wladmir vs baer? Baer gets a flash knockdown in the 2nd, but lacks the finishing skill to put wladmir away and gets battered and schooled vy wladmirs educated jab and 21st century ring iq. Wlad starts releasing the right hand in round 4 once hes recovered and busts max up whose lack of head movement and defense do him no favors. The ref saves a brave max from himself in round 8 after many 1 sided brutal rounds full of sledgehammer hooks and 1-2s and max goes down at least twice. He laughs it off and puts on wladmirs robe to amuse the audience.

Max Baer could stop him late, but he'd probably get disheartened and start clowning about.

Wlad by clear decision is my pick.

Klitschko has a vulnerability here - his well-documented problems with punch resistance that plagued him in the early part of his career. My own view is that if a prime-Baer faced the Wlad that faced Sam Peter or earlier, he would likely bounce him off the canvas and stop him like he did Carnera.

Post-Peter, Wlad wins a a wide UD up to the point his skills started to decline as he got into his 40s. Then again, a prime Baer would likely do what he did to Carnera. But it would have to be a prime Baer. A pre- or post-prime Baer loses a wide UD to any version of Wlad.

Max Baer late KO if he comes in serious

You guys know that Wlad had the same reach as Baer right? and that he was only 3" taller and like 10-20 lbs heavier? And that Baer beat bigger guys?

Wlad has been knocked out by inferior punchers

We would be justified in favoring Wlad here, but Baer is going to be a dangerous assignment.

It might end up looking like the first Peter fight, with Wlad surviving some shaky moments to take the decision.

I agree, Carnera could actually fight on the inside!
The jab is the punch that Baer was best at countering.

Why do you think that he kept finding Carnera with his right?

At a point, this can end up being a pretty cicular argument.

Baer knocks him down in the first with a sloppy backhand.

Wlad gets up on wobbly legs and tries to clinch, but is immediately driven back by fierce robot arm punches to the solar plexus.

Wlad manages to rally back and lands a couple hundred flush right hands to Baer's grill but is greeted with nothing but laughter.

Wlad tries to retreat but is effortlessly taken down by Baer and ground 'n pounded into submission.

As Wlad is helped groggily to his feet by his brother and the ghost of Max Schmeling Baer goes to greet him with a hearty slap on the shoulder. The slap dislocates Wlad's shoulder and sends him into a non-lethal coma, only to be revived again by Max's booming manly laughter.

That's about as much as I can muster up for this particular fight.
