I remember after the parker fight Mick was "shades of maloney" Tonight must have been devestating for him, all the money he's spunked down Furys Any word?
Peter Fury has spoken and basically stated that the better man won although it would have been a different fight if the eye hadn’t have been cut.
Hughie would've made the fight a lot closer if he boxed his usual style last night. However, his appalling stamina and lack of sharpness meant Pulev had the beating of him regardless.
I thought Pulev dealt with him comfortably and probably couldn’t believe his luck with the lack of variety in Hughie’s offence. It was clear as day that Hughie was trying to time the right hand & Pulev knew to evade it and fall into a clinch/put Fury in a headlock. I thought/hoped that Fury was trying to set a trap to eventually let the left hand go which I felt was there for him a few times. The only positive I can draw from it is that when he did land the right hand sweet (can’t remember round), Pulev was wobbled and only his experience got him out of trouble. That for me shows that he is developing that sting in his shots. He needs to forget about world title shots for a few years now, take the pressure off, and concentrate on improving his offence against Euro level standard opponents. The experience of fighting in front of a big crowd away from home will only benefit him.
Showed he can hold a shot well too. There's plenty to work with from Hughie's perspective. But as said, he needs to drop levels and discover himself once and for all. Cement an effective style. The success of Tyson hasn't done Hughie good IMO. Hughie has been in a hurry to catch up with Tyson but he'll never be that good. However, it doesn't mean he can't be a good fighter. Peter/Mick need to forget about Tyson and manage Hughie's career better. There's huge gaps in levels between his opponents and too much inactivity.
What got me was that he kept on the same approach for round after round, long after it was clear that Pulev wouldn't fall for it. As you say, if he'd done it as a bluff and varied his attack he may have had some joy, it was at least worth trying. Instead there was round after round of the same thing. Hughie and Peter have been quite disparaging about the British title as he's marked for greater things. Well on current showing he may be better off as you say, taking some fights at that or euro level and getting some experience.
Probably not. Taylor isn’t going to be on the channel for the foreseeable future and Bakole has effectively ended his career as a main eventer with Cyclone so Fury will still in demand. It’ll be interesting to see the ratings for last night- I’d imagine they will be solid so Fury will continue on Channel 5. To be fair to them they got Chisora and Haye as pundits last night which at least shows intention of upping their game.
That looked like a calculated trade off from Haye, we will show up for your coverage if you let us plug our next fight. Worked pretty well.
This was him getting some money back surely considering it was Pulev's Bulgarian consortium who put together a purse that the likes of Matchroom weren't willing to meet.
