Why is Ali-Liston 2 so much more controversial than Marciano-Walcott 2?

Both look about equally faked to me, but the Walcott one isn't even a fraction as discussed and controversial as the Liston one is. This despite that the mob was perhaps even more involved in boxing in the 50's (it was the Carbo era after all). Why is that?

Walcott vs Marciano is controversial, but it's not as controversial for 4 reasons:

    1. Ali was a featherfist, Marciano had heavy hands. A first round, one punch knockout makes more sense for Marciano

    2. Walcott didn't have the chin that Liston had. Liston's chin wasn't granite like some would have you believe, but it was solid, Walcott's was a bit more exposable.

    3. Walcott wasn't mafia controlled. Liston was. Liston had a reason to take a dive, Walcott didnt.

    4. The referee and Walcott himself said he was out until the final count. The ref quoting Walcott's eyes as "glazed"

What's often forgotten is that when Liston is down seemingly waiting for Walcott to count him out, Ali refusal to go to a corner means that Walcott is unable to complete the count as he is trying to get Ali to back up to the corner. By the time he does it Liston, probably bored of lying down, gets up and Walcott is about to let them resume fighting when the timekeeper tells him that Liston had been down for 10 sec and the fight was over. A total farce.

I'd your gonna fix a fight why would you do it like that? I'm thinking Sonny was drugged out and spooked by the NOI. People with machine guns were coming to avenge Malcom's murder.

I doubt it was an organized fix.

Walcott was beaten down in the last fight and at his age he made a business decision.

The alleged NOI assassins used shotguns to come out of the crowd to kill Ali's buddy Malcolm X on a small stage.
The NOI probably used a Return on Investment type MBA grade analysis, and determine Ali was much more financially and politically valuable than the troublesome Malcolm X, who was quickly moving up the NOI ranks and a threat to the very top of the NOI.

Ali believed the legitimacy of the Liston KO till the day he died. And he believed so privately.

What everyone always ignores is that Liston took the tumble because Ali was running right at him while he was trying to get up.

Watching Rocky-Walcott 2 again it seems mainly like Walcott mistimed the count. Probably should have rewatched it before I posted this thread...

Plus Walcott retired immediately after the fight, so people were a bit more inclined to let it go.

Liston continued to be a contender, and a potential title challenger.

That's what Walcott claimed in interviews after the fight.

Rocky was more of an attrition puncher who broke you down. The fact it took rocky 13 rounds against the exact same opponent is a little suspicious, but walcott was pretty old and rocky had heavy hands and knew walcotts style and timing so i suppose its "unlikely" but not impossible. Although rocky did hang with a few shady people, i doubt hed need or even want to pay to pay walcott to lay down.

I definitely question walcotts heart. I think he had flash backs to the suzie q and was discouraged getting dropped so early knowing it was an uphill battle after doing so well the first time. Hes only human.

That punch he took in rd 13 would have taken something out of anyone.

I remember reading or hearing that when Liston went down Ali said, “Get up and fight, you bum, or nobody’s going to believe this?”
    Can anybody verify this?

Ali Liston took place in a 4900 people capacity junior skating rink in Lewiston Maine...that has to add to WTF aspect of the rematch.

Walcott's manager was "connected",I think Walcott could have gotten up but elected not to.Sonny took a dive imo. The reason the fights with Marciano were not in NY was because the NY Commission would not give Bocchicchio a managers licence because of his criminal record.
