There is a new wave; A 'platform' ( eg... DAZN, Showtime , ESPN) Is a very new one, rapidly gaining cliche momentum. Obvious, common term...but seems to be especially in vogue of late. Another curious one;--You didn't hear about a fighter being the 'A' side of a fight when vinyl records where actually the main conduit of music. It's become a popularised cliche decades too late haha. Weird how that has caught on when vinyl was superseded decades ago. Odd. But they don't actually bother me beyond a minor cringe. The one I can't stand is 'letting a fight £uckin "Marinate"...' bloody sick of reading that. If that cookery term was so bloody good for describing potential future fights, why wasn't it used years ago. A $hitty cookery term has become an overused boxing phrase excuse when a fight is not going to happen soon. Loath that one...it's terrible and makes me want to stop reading on. Anyway good thread and posts guys.
I'd love to hear a commentator one time say "Oh he's got a bad cut, and unfortunately his cutman is ****. What was he thinking hiring him?" Good thread.
Weight cutting is a legit concern in my eyes though. Something will need to be done about it eventually.
‘You don’t know **** about boxing’ Of course you have huge casuals who really don’t know **** about boxing but usually people employ this as a ad hominem attack because someone doesn’t agree with them.
그것은 어느쪽으로 든 갈 수 있었다. This is a lesser known one. Its what the Koreans said when park si-hun beat roy jones jr in the olympic final. It is korean for 'it could have gone either way' Lets just say the americans were total hypocrites this time and didn't believe it could have gone either way
Weight cutting wrong leads to fighters getting ****ed up not fighters winning. If you cut correctly and you make the required weight you can not be considered a weight bully.
I'm amazed most cut men aren't doctors. Ricky Hatton - a fighter notorious for his paper skin - had a taxi driver has his cutman.
I'm worried about their long term health more than anything. When we get ex fighters kidneys packing up on them in their 40s and early 50s due to the strain they've put on themselves this is going to look pretty shameful a practice that was allowed to happen.
Thats true i know a few fighters like 6'1 and boxing at light middle. They often say they have to drain down to that weight because everyone does it. If they didn't they would be fighting guys bigger than them
Yeah it's a truism more than a cliche. Or perhaps such a good truism that it's become cliche. Either way it's too good and accurate to discard with the real garbage platitudes. Keep that and make 'Marinate' walk the plank is what I say. Harrr arrrr!
Thanking God after winning a fight; as if the creator of the universe, assuming he exists for argument sake, (pssst..he doesn't) gives a toss about you and your fight and somehow chose to help you defeat your opponent.
Love to one day hear someone thanking Satan...or even Odin, Zeus, Osiris etc after a victory. Not the big G man
