Pulev being a contender shows once again how terrible the division is

This thread is casual nonsense. For some reason people are conditioned only to respect the "superbowl" or the "world cup" championship matches but not enough care about the meat and potatoes like other sports. That has to change for the health of the sport because there's not enough of those fights to fill out a consistent schedule.

Watch Rummy Corner's 90's Heavyweight boxing documentary on youtube. Look at the top 10's listed in the 90's documentary, pay attention to them and see how many of those fighters do you actually remember or know about now? Look at the top 15 sanctioning body lists in any division today. There's no division that has a true top 10 of dangerous contenders at any given time (not including promising prospects) and that includes Welterweight. I chalk this thread to ignorance.

Right now the HW scene is much improved, strong at the top, dangerous and competitive contenders, promising prospects, top cruiserweights aiming to get in the mix. Different mix of styles, backgrounds and more importantly a lot of intriguing matchups. Most of that was missing in the last era. There was nobody who was going to look the Klitchko's right in the eye at the same level.

Pulev currently would make my top 10 rankings but barely and that's because how boxing is structured, contenders only fight each other to get guaranteed title shots so it could turn out there's 10 plus HW's better than Pulev at this point but that's how ranking goes. Only one true way to know how strong of a contender he is and that is if he beats another dangerous top 5 or has a strong showing against Wilder and AJ.

Povetkin and Ortiz showed they are top 5 with strong showings, imo, even though they got knocked out they forced us to see new things from both the champs. I don't think Pulev is capable of that so he's bottom top 10, but he'd likely beat most of the current top 40 contenders because of size and a decent jab. Doesn't mean the division is weak.

Those who say this era is bad are mostly salty Kliturds who don't like that the new crop are bringing excitement into the division which then makes Wlads era look even worse than it was . lol!

 

Never said the Current HW divison is as strong the Ali , Fraser Foreman era or the Lewis and Hollyfield, Era.

The HW is divison is stronger than the 05-15 Wlad and vitali era plus better the 80 era of Douglas, Tyson, Spinks,Berbick,Thomas and Witherspoon.
