Can Ted Cheeseman become a world champion?

3 and 0 for Cheeseman this year with him having beaten Carson Jones, Paul Upton and Asinia Byfield in impressive fashion. Now the bigger question is can he become a world champion sometime in the near future?

 

He could if he fights for a vacant strap

He isn't beating a top fighter like the current champs or the best moving up from 147

Cheeseman needs to fight Fowler first tbh

 

I think the fowler fight will happen

 

That's what I thought last night watching him. So much variety in his work, be it attacking or defending. Can attack and defend using several styles. He'll adapt to different opponents very well.

I believe he'll become world champion and I've not seen much of him. Sometimes you just get that feeling watching a fighter. He definitely has more gears to go through.

 

Ted vs Liam Williams would be a good matchup, Cheeseman reminds me of Williams in terms of build and athleticism.

I think Ted is a bit harder hitting and fierce. Think Ted would beat him up.

 

When you have work rate like that and the style he does, he could be a nightmare for anyone. Slowly becoming one of my favourite boxers in the UK.

 

Love his work, love his name.

 

Gets hit way too much. Offensively very good, but he needs to tighten that defence up a LOT.

 

agreed -- great to watch, dominant at british level but a but like ritson needs to made defensive improvements to go all the way IMO

 

Now I like his muscularity and force of The Big cheese, but he is so open defensively it’s difficult to see him winning a world title.

If he was matched super carefully and fortunate then yes perhaps. But he was getting countered with some hellacious counters by Byfield, as Byfield was backed to the ropes. He would have stopped Byfield from the 7th to 9th but it’s those counters he was catching that kept him off.

A better fighter than Byfield will set the traps for him on purpose and cash the cheque on his chin. He also looks like a fighter who will suffer from bad cuts.

 

He's maturing well.

 

I remember back in 2012 doing a boxing training camp in Tenerife. There was around 80 boxers of different weights all amateurs of ages 16-21 from around the country which was part of a sports program for people doing amateur sports for them to improve while also studying.

Ted Cheeseman and Archie Sharp were both there along with a few others. Cheeseman was the most impressive in my opinion. He seemed like he handled everyone easily and his movement was really good, slips and counters. Heard he’s really dedicated. He didn’t have the most success in ABA’s after that think he got to semi’s then went pro.

Wouldn’t put a world title past him. Also heard a lot of good things about Anthony Fowler that would be a cracking fight.

 

Tonnes of potential.

 

I dont think he will become a world champion. I think he loses his shape too much and against the best with unravel and be picked off. Really like him though, he's really young and improving so hopefully he will prove me wrong.

 

My old boxing coach reckoned he’d be champion one day when we watched him in the amateurs and he rarely says that about any boxers

They are moving him along nicely and think he would do very well against the metcalf/Williams winner (probably Williams)
