so i'm curious which pro boxer was knocked down the most amount of times in his career. Not necessarily knocked out, but knocked down (even in fights he ended up winning after perhaps...). anyone have any names??
As champions go Floyd Patterson would be my guess. You could spit on Floyd and knock him down but he also got up more than anyone.
Joe Grim has a tragic ending to his life Though Grim did not win many bouts, he was credited with a newspaper decision over former welterweight champion Matty Matthews in 1904.[13] He tried unsuccessfully to secure a fight with reigning heavyweight champion James J. Jeffries.[5] His run came to an end when he was knocked out by Sailor Burke in 1906. Four years later, he was knocked out by Sam McVea in Paris.[11] Grim began to suffer mental health issues and was admitted to a sanitarium in 1913, before being released in 1916.[14] He promoted fights in Philadelphia and worked as a foreman in a shipyard in New York.[11] In later life he was committed to the Philadelphia Hospital for Mental Diseases, where he died in 1939.
No way of knowing for sure... but, yes, Grim would be the obvious guess. If we're talking HW champions, then I believe Charles may be the "winner".
Pete Rademacher was down 30 times in 23 fights that I know of (could be more). I don't know about most times, but on percentages this has to be a record. Decked an average of 1.3 times per fight.
Not sure about the numbers but I always like his quote from the After the Fall series. Glass jaw? I’ve been beaten, but only by champs. I’m still around after 17 years. If I had a glass jaw, could I have lasted so long? I have never been counted out. Let’s say, if it will make some people happy, that I have a glass jaw. But I also have an iron will. I may go down, but I get up.”
Archie Moore was down at least 50 times! I think rather than take punishment when he was hurt he just went down and took a breather. He sure came back and won a lot of those
Tito was tough as hell. His knockdowns seemed to be from poor balance early in fights. He would take better shot later on and not blink once he caught his groove.
Michael Moorer got dropped as a heavyweight quite a bit. Sometimes he got up Cooper, Holyfield and sometimes he didn't Foreman, Tua.
