Why is Ali-Liston 2 so much more controversial than Marciano-Walcott 2?

Liston looked like a bad acting job in there... just falling all over himself one moment and seemingly about to continue like nothing the next. A great actor he was not. Walcott's looked more like he either mistimed the count or he simply get stunned and didn't want more. They just looked vastly different to me, but the only one that looked fixed or staged was Liston's

 

I don’t think either it was fixed per se. I think both Walcott and Liston experienced the feeling that there were better ways to earn a living on the nights in question.

 

if listons was staged or fixed, wouldnt it have been a lot simpler for him to fall to the floor and play possum? The way he behaved, in my eyes, tells me he made a spur of the moment decision. Add to that the Walcott/Fleischer/McDonagh amateur hour along with Ali refusing to go to a neutral corner and hey presto, conspiracy theory. Ive never even thought of Walcott/marciano 2 as being suspect if im honest

 

Maybe Walcot didn`t recover from the right hand he was hit with in the first fight vs Marciano and that`s why he made such a balls up in the Ali v Liston fiasco!

 

Marciano`s KO over Walcott was far better than Ali`s KO over Liston in both their respective second fights.

 

I certainly feel this was the case with Walcott.Foneda Cox ,Liston's sparring partner and whoring buddy said Sonny took a dive in the second fight.

 

I don't think the Walcott fight was pre-arranged,I just think when he got clipped, he decided **** it, I don't want to go through that again.

 

Yeah, it’s definitely not a closely held belief of mine and I have vacillated. Sonny was apparently still favored in the rematch so there was a healthy incentive. I have read so many tales of Sonny Liston, a cottage industry, boxings version of the JFK the assassination, that I have become perhaps overly jaded. The most fantastical has to be the one written by Paul Gallender along with psychic medium Josie Roase in which the last chapter is written as told to Ms. Roase by Sonny. She has also written a follow up and apparently Sonny has taken a keen interest in healing and social issues since passing on.

One point I would like to make Marciano had practised that uppercut in training for the second Walcott fight.
How badly Walcott was hurt only he knew.Rocky said it was a solid punch, and Joe was dipping into it.

 

Was he known as a judge at all?

 

He judged a total of 7 fights over 24 years.
1965-1989 Not exactly in high demand was he?

 

To the contrary he apparently he was one of the best Maine could find and thus was assigned to judge a heavyweight title bout!

 

He was rested and ready for Maine’s next Heavyweight Title showcase!

 

They wanted him to be fresh!
