Why is Ali-Liston 2 so much more controversial than Marciano-Walcott 2?

    Jersey Joe Walcott managers indeed had deep connections with the philly mob.

    Read William's Detloff bibliographical account on Ezzard Charles regarding that. Quite clear that Walcott made the decision to miss the count.

    Earnie Terrell was also another boxer whose managers had deep mob connections.

    When you think about it, Ali association with the Nation of Islam pretty much helped be more independent. Ali without the Noi would've made him more open to attacks from hostile groups.
    Ali was also a bit suspicious of Dundee given his Italian origins and mob connections being rife at that time during his bout with Liston.
