According to Pat Fiacco, who's the AIBA's technical commission's president, boxing will be on the 2020 Tokyo games. He announched that on the opening day of their Moskow congress. Not much other details known at this point.
Boom, hopefully they can sort out the corruption The Olympics mean a lot of government funding for athletes. This attracts more talented athletes because they don't have to pay their own way. Boxing would be greatly damaged in the long run without the Olympics and grass roots development.
Get in. Suppose its a bit daft saying it here on a Boxing forum but the Boxing is my favourite event at the games. I do fear that the AIBA are going to be up for more battles to secure their place at the games in the future though.
Seems strange they would consider kicking boxing out of the Olympics prior to Tokyo. The Japanese love their boxing. Probably one of the reasons it stayed in.
Why did they ask Ali to light their freaking flame if they want to kick the sport out? Boxing has been there since the beginning. If they want to kick boxing out, just boot women's boxing. Give the women jelly wrestling instead.
Good to hear.. I'm a big fan of the amateurs. Olympics is the best platform for an amateur to make a name Corrupt from top to bottom tho..
Me thinks someone finally agreed to share. Nothing like the good old “if you don’t do this, you won’t have that”
