Somebody mentioned this possible fight in 1975. Duran wasn't quite the finished product at that point in his career but he was still darn good. Let's say he moves up to challenge Cervantes, what happens?

Durans raw talent and ability wins this late....Cervantes was a hell of a good fighter then but IMO he was not quite good enough for Duran....Duran was outmatched once by Dejesus 1 out of 3 times being his only loss in his prime. Intriguing match of high end skills but Durans cageiness and power pulls it out

1975 is right around the turning point. I'd pick Cervantes up through about 74 and Duran from probably 76 on. 75?...leaning toward Duran, but could go either way.

Duran is already a killing machine in 75. He takes Cervantes and if he presses the issue stops him late.

That was my view - before '75, Cervantes, after '75, Duran. 1975? Draw?

In ‘73 Furuyama managed to pressure Cervantes with some success, so I’m sure Duran would take the win.

I'd favor Duran by decision, but it would be one helluva fight.

Depends on Durans motivation, if he presses he stops him late, UD in any case. I like Cervantes but he can't beat Duran, that's a bridge too far. Now pit Arguello with Cervantes and you got a fight.
